Well in order to help get this club more active.
I wfigure I would post some impressions about my 79
Buick Skyhawk I bought in Dec.2000 for 300$.
This is
my first 79 Hbody Ive ever owned. Ive mostly have
owned vegas in the past mostly with v6s and a couple
with v8s. This 79 skyhawk came pretty much loaded from
the factory. PS PB Tilt AC 5 speed trans, 2.52 rear
ratio, full gauge package Factory Option Clarion
AM?FM/Cassette(which still works removed) Factory Sports handling
package, Rare Factory squrare slotted aluminum rims in
real good shape with near new tires and shocks, When I
got in Dec, it needed a new clutch because the owner
before the one I got it from had installed a used
disc/pressure plate which lasted about 45 days with the new
owner Which is how I ended up with it. It has only 80k
when I got it. Body wise it in I belive excellent
shape with only 2 dents on the left fender,No external
body rott and the typical inerdoor flap rust which is
typical here. What Ive done since I got it, Removed all
the spray bomb primer and blue krylon spray paint off
the orginal black paint with gold pinstripping using
about 16 cans of carb cleaner and 5 rolls of papper
towels and alot of patience. I replaced the fuel tank
with the one out of my 77 skyhawk I parted out plus
used the entire fuel line becaue former owner had
spliced in a electric fuel pump in the metal line because
the orginal one in the tank had died. Replace the
Vacumeport switch which was missing/ broken. When ordering
this switch I found out the car was setup as
California emissions low attitude certifaction, Due to where
I live here in Utah all the Hbody here are High
attitude certifaction.Which shows this car came from out
of state orginaly most likly when some previous
owner moved here from Califoirna due to the fact that
other states are Fedrual emission low attitude or High
attitude certification. Im picky some Im trying to get it
were everything works like its supposed to, Thing I
want to do with it is gett it blasted and repainted,
Replace the dryrotted tan panels repalced, seats
reuphoisted, new carpet, and repalcement headliner material.
How do I like driving it? I am in love how it drives
and handles real nice, It rides nicely not to mushy
or to stiff about a sports car ride, Scoots down the
interstate at 65 @2200 rpms and getting around 17.2 mpg
while doing it. Final anylis is Im hooked on it both
looks and and ride and styling and Im planing to do
some improvments but not overdoing it. Im going to
post some pics of of when I first got it before I
fixed and got it registered, Ihope to take some pics of
it in its present state, Well I guess this one is a
KEEPER, Which is nice since my other toy got brodesided
the day after I got it Inspected and emissed,
insurance gave me 1100$ out of the 2700$ I had paid for it
2 weeks earlier, Catch you guys later and hope this
post wasnt too leanthy. Jon

Thanks Dick
Im going to post some pics of the
car soon( got to find the time though), Wensday Me
and the wife went up to one the local skiresorts
here. We took the Skyhawk, Getting to the resort meant
going throuhg Oqden canyon, THe hawk handle the curves
with no problems and took the long steep hills with
retive no problems(could have used a loer gearatio
though 2.52 in now). Only bad thing I found out was the
B&W5 speed 2nd gear likes to pop out when going down
hils(got a spare though). I gave it a bath when we got
home to get rid of any salt, Went to polish the
factory aluminum rims and found out the 2preivious owner
had sprayed painted 3 of the rims with silver paint
GRRRRRR, The other polished up real nice,(Time to get more
carb cleaner)LOL
