That's right, the 200r4 is the same overall
length, no need to shorten the driveshaft.
Your
factory trans cooling lines will work, you might have to
bend them a little right at the the trans case
fittings. Use the filler tube and dip stick, and most
important of all, the TV cable that comes with the 200
4r.
When it comes to hooking up your shifter cable, I
modified the TH350 bracket that bolts to the trans pan....
it was a real pain trying to get the right geometry,
I would'nt do it again it's not worth the headache,
just go to the dealer and buy the correct bracket for
a mid eightys olds cutlass or Regal GN that came
with the 2004r, I'm assuming they are still available,
I will find out as we just completed a TH350 to a
2004r conversion in a '84 olds cutlass at the shop
where I work.
As for the trans crossmember, you'll
need to move it rearward I think about 4-6" I did this
by bolting in two lengths of 1 1/2" angle iron to
the stock crossmember location and then bolted the
crossmember to the angle iron so it lined up with the trans
mounting pad (the TH350 rubber mount will work) when you
do this you won't be able to use the factory pellet
style catalitic converter.
The trickiest part of
this conversion was makeing a brackett for the torque
arm, I used a piece of 1 1/4" flatbar bent it at a
rightangle and sandwhiched it between the trans mounting pad
and the rubber mount. You'll have to bend the flatbar
in order to line it up with the rubber bushing on
the torque arm. This is only one way of hooking up
the torque arm and it's worked well for the last
eight years however I'm going to modify it again which
involves shortening the torque arm about 2" and making a
brackett similar to what I described but will allow you to
play with pinion angles.
Is you car a Monza Mirage?
hope this helps, Ian
