I have a 1987 buick sky hawk,i have noticed several skyhawks with the
bottom of thier doors rusting away, mine included. Is this a
manufacturing defect?

I also have an '87 skyhawk. I'm not sure if it is a manufacturing
defect but I had to replace one door and have a plate welded onto the
other one to stop the rusting back in 1999.

This is not necessirally a "desgn defect" as it is just inherant to
this design. The H-Body design aand perhaps the quality or lack of
qauality of rustproofing of the metal and poor drainage of the design
caused a tremendous propensity to developing rust in the first
generation (Vega) H-Body design. The second generation H-Body (monsa,
skyhawk, starfire, sunbird) was an improvement, but not on the doors.
The windshield areas faired mush better. Colin Frost owns a Starfire
and lives in England. He sent me pictures of the doors on his
Starfire. They were so badly rusted that he had to completely rebuild
the bottoms to the doors with new sheet metal since he did not have
access to any good doors in England. You'll gain a lot more info if
you join some of the other club groups like GMHBODY5 or V8 Monza.
These groups have more members and are much more active with a whole
lot more info.
