If you want the P195-70-R13 size I know of 2 outlets. Sears has Cooper brand and if you find a Jetzon dealer, they make that size in the Avenger series. Hope this helps.

Many years ago, I kept track of my gas mileage
with every tankful. After the stock tires, I opted for
inexpensive Tiempos from Goodyear. When they wore out, I went
for performance, 60 series, and wide. Don't recall
just what, but either Goodyear or B F Goodrich. Gas
mileage dropped nearly 2 mpg. Since I drove nearly 20,000
per year in my Cosworth, and considering the extra
cost for the hi-po tires, it was a somewhat expensive
decision. But when I looked at the Cos just sitting there
with those wide, mean meats, it was worth every penny!

Best price performance high-performance tire is
the
205/60HR-13 Yokahama A509. They are out of
production, but some inventory may be around. Mail order
price was only $59 a few months ago. Next step up is
Yok AVS Intermediate, 205/60VR-13, $71 from the tire
rack. Sumitomos HTR100 is only about $40 but it won't
work that well -- too hard.
If you want to blow off
modern sports cars around
corners, DOT legal racing
tires are the way to go.
GY, BFG, Yok, and Toyo make
them in a 205/60. Also Kumho. Road racing tire will
give you about 10 to 15K of normal street driving, but
the Autocross compounds won't last very long.

195/70R-13 is closest to production BR70-13 dimensions, but
are rare. Dunlop might still have one.
185/70s are
relatively common and cheap, but all current 70 series are
"all-season" type, and don't belong on
a serious sports
sedan. Try tirerack.com and discounttiredirect.com. You
can search by size.
Hope you spend a little extra
and get some decent tires. Your car deserves
them.

I agree with you Dr. Duke. 195-70's are hard to
come by. 205-60's are found more often in stock at the
tire stores. I do not recommend Kumho at all. I have a
set on my cadillac. They are not a good rain tire and
I personally think they are not that good on dry
pavement either. It is an inexpensive tire, hard rubber,
good tread mileage, but not an impressive performer in
my book

Dan,
I completely disagree about the Kumho's.
You must have one of their standard all season
radials on your Cadillac. I have a set of V700
Victoracers I use on my street driven/occasional back-up
autocross car, a '90 HO Grand Am. Although the Victoracers
are not as sticky as the 225 45-13 Hoosier
Autocrossers I use on the Vega, they are a gumball type tire
on the same par of nearly any of the other DOT legal
radial race tires.

There were several classes at
the SCCA solo II nationals which had cars place very
high and some that won with Kumho tires. This year's
Nationals were run (as usual) in both rain and shine, and
the Kumho's performed about as well as the other DOT
gumball radials. Most drivers will not be able to use the
maximum adhesion of their better street radials, let
alone the gumballs.

You cannot compare a
standard street version model of any tire brand to their
high performance tires. That is like comparing the
Dunlop GT qualifier (a piece of junk) to the old D40
Dunlop, a Goodyear Eagle ST (slippy tire) to an Eagle F1,
or a standard Michelin XW4 to the Pilot Sport tires
which come as standard equipment on an exotic.

The Kumho V700 205-60R 13's are available from the
Tire Rack in Indiana. They have an additional 8 tire
types of various brands in that size, ranging from
those afforementioned junk Dunlop GT qualifiers, to BFG
TA-R1's, and stuff in between... They had no listings for
195-70 13's.

Good luck tire hunting.

I apologize if my statement about kumho's upset
the autocrosser set. However, I have not ever seen a
5000 # Cadillace autocross let alone autocross on
Kumho's. Every tire manufactured has an application. I
believe the original context of the article was
street/highperformance. I would not even begin to get into any discussion
about tire performance in autocrossing. My autocrossing
experience is not on the level of the experts by far. My
comments were directed to the street variety only. In my
own experience, 235 -70R 15 Touring Tires were not a
good choice for the Cadillac, even though I went
larger than original equipment, based on performance I
have received from other brands. By performance, I
mean my own personal observations on wet/dry pavement
and cornering. I do approximately twice the amount of
driving a year as the average person, approximately
40-50K. As for autocross, I will defer to the experts and
would even try a set of kumho's under that scenario
based on Dr. Duke and your comments. I really
appreciate the input to my comments. They were informative
and educational.

Dan -- try a set of Dunlop D65Ts. They're
available in your size in both whitewall and blackwall and
have an 80K mileage guarantee. The mail order price of
the b/w from the tire rack is $57. I recommended
these to two friends with sedans who drive sedately,
and they were quite pleased. Your size is also used
on the old Caprice police cars, so you might check
with a local agency. Most have test data from the CHP.
One of the best 225/70-15s is the G/Y Eagle RSA. One
version carried a "V" speed rating, but I think they're
out of production. I run this size on my Corvette, so
I've kept track of it over the years. Of course, you
pay a price for performance. Last I checked they were
well over $100 each.

Duke

What is your objective - performance, OEM look,
other criteria like driving envrironment and weather
factors? Do you drive your car everyday or is it a weekend
toy? Also, what's your budget? Are you willing to pay
for quality or do you just want cheap
tires?

This car will be a weekend driver. I just need the size of a tire that will fit a 13 inch cosworth rim due to when I bought my car it had non-factory wheels. You know P??? / ?? R13.

I run 195/60s BFG TAs on my car. A 185/70 would
likely be closer to stock and would give a bit more
ground clearance/fill the wheel wells a bit more. I know
several people who run 205/60s. Steering effort increases
a bit if you go that wide. My nickel's worth...

in the previous concours judging sheet two sizes
were allowed P185/70R13 or P195/70R13 some guys have
used the P205/60R13 on the cosworth wheel they look
good my self I use the P195/70R13 the biggest reason
is chevrolet used the wrong speedometer gear on the
output shaft of the transmission and my speedometer
reads faster than actual speed there for I used the
larger size.

The best high performance summer tire for the CV,
and in fact it looks like it's the only one left is
the Yokohama AVS Intermediate 205/60VR-13, $71 each
from the Tire Rack. This will capitalize on the
excellent chassis dynamics of your CV and they should give
about 30,000 miles of service. Beyond this you can
acquire DOT legal racing tires in this size from
Goodyear, Yokohama, BFG, and Toyo for about a hundred bucks
each, and they should give 10 to 15K miles of street
service. They will get you up close to 1g lateral with a
bit of suspension tuning and you can go out and
intimidate Porsches, Ferraris, C5s, and Vipers. The 195/70s
are history, and this leaves various 185/70 all
season "van tires" which will allow the car to track
straight down the road and protect the rims, but not much
else.

The only components painted on the CV engine, besides
the cam cover are the alternator mounting bracket and
starter motor. I recommend flat black header paint to
duplicate the OEM finish. You should prep the cam cover
with "Alumiprep" (phosphoric acid) and Alodine before
painting to ensure a long lasting job. This is the same
procedure used for refinishing the wheels, which will be
the lead article in the next CV Magazine.

What
does "heavy fuel1959" mean? Got anything to do with
Corvettes?

I prefer 195/70's or 205/60's.
The 205/60's
are a little easier to find. I rolled a 185/70 off
the rim in a low speed turn with a tite that was
slightly under inflated for what thats worth.
