Well,
I could have been cheating..
About 3
or 4 days before the Houston roundup, I took the
1020 out for a spin. Now, take this under
consideration. I have just restored her to best of my ability...
but she had been set up for the twisties. West of at
that time home town, the county had repaved the farm
to market roads. Now, if you live rural, you know
the those big ol grain trucks carry some mass and do
not turn on a dime.
The road Engineers from Texas
A&M can sure design a 90 degree curve. If you can
imagine, a 1 or 2 mile, straight shot into a 90 degree, 30
degree banked corner.. and repeated for mile after
mile.
One I had warmed up the tires, planted a grin from
ear to ear.. and "learned" 1024's habits..
After a
relaxing cool down cruise back to town, i found myself
sitting at a stop light. Now, imagine a stopless, hot
black Cos, louvered hood and low squat from the
Yokohama A008 Rs. So, I could not help myself... A quick
stak at the gas pedal, a light touch of the binders,
and a dropping the clutch at 5 g..
Well, I admit
I do not have posi, but the sprinker runoff in the
road really got the tires going. Once they started
smoking, I figured "what the heck"..
HHHMMM... It's
been a while since I took 1020 off jackstands...
HHMM... I think I need to get her onto a chassis dyno..
and maybe to a roundup
And smoke some
tire..
Peace
Doug..
