Al, I don't know what the fastest speed recorded
by a CV would be, but I somehow remember someone
using a CV engine in a streamliner at
Bonneville.
As far as the most power ever recorded, the limiting
factor for the CV is the structural integrity of the
Vega block. At high horsepower and high rpms, the
block's dynamic resonance causes a structural failure
(they will break in half). This hp limit is somewhere
in the 280 -350 HP area depending on which block is
used. I am going to once again explore those limits in
the near future with another turbo engine. I posted
some specifics (several times) about this engine (non
cosworth head) some time ago, so looking for the postings
will let you know more about that engine. I am going
to try building a turbo 2300 cosworth and see just
how much a seriously modified cylinder block can
handle.
Kevin.
