Tom, I read your response and am considering a similar
coversion. It sounds like you have spent a great deal
of time and effort into devloping this modification.
What year and model have found to be the best and
second best choices for donor cars? Do you have a web
site that your installation pictures are on? Thanks,
Jim

Hey guys,
I have a 75 Cosworth motor for sale complete. Block,
top end, header, and the radiator. It was rebuilt in
1995 and looks good, but the damn thing is frozen.
Reason unknown. Also a brand new (re-built) starter.
Also many misc. parts like dash boards and gauges.
If interested please e-mail me at:
<a href="/group/cosworthvegas/post?protectID=045143253078021198024107017248006239018088057136183130234143025">jwolfe101@n...</a>
I live in Sandy Utah, just 20 miles south of Salt
Lake.
Thanks,
Jesse

FOR SALE 1976 Cosworth Vega #2361 VIN# 1V7706U167818.
Purchased from original owner in July 1982 with 133K miles. Four speed
transmission had been replaced with non-Cosworth 4 speed. The engine had been
professionally rebuilt at 100K miles.
All body panels have a small ding or dent, or filler. The right door has a
1/2" rust through hole. The paint is severely eggshelled. All five CV
wheels are very faded with some oxidation.
I normally drive it at least once every two weeks. Windshield severely
cracked (by vandals ?)on the left side in January 2002. Registration expired
in March 2002. I still drive it a mile or two every two weeks under the
cover of dark.
Many parts have been replaced in the 20 years and 20K miles that I have owned
it. I had originally planned on restoring this car but never did.
My wife says "Sell it." Make me an offer.

I found a little trick that I used and it worked well. If the surface of
the wheel isn¹t cracked or chipped. If it is take care of that first. I
found a circular piece of plastic that I trimmed to be the exact diameter of
the shinny portion of the wheel. Then, with that in place and the center
cap removed you can just spray the paint without overspray getting on the
wheel. I searched and searched for a good color that came close to the
original, I didn¹t find an exact match but came up with one that was close.
If any of the Cosworth people know the name of the gold color used, that
would be great and make my future refinishing easier.

I too would like to know what this ³TCT² is or how to get it. As soon as I
can afford it I¹m buying as much Cosworth stuff as I can before it gets
really scarce. I worked for General Motors dealerships in the early/mid
70¹s and on until the mid 80¹s, my first experience with a Cosworth was when
they were on the showroom floor in 75-76. Then later at another dealership
I was coming to work one day and in the car trade-in area I saw one. I
immediately contacted the used car manager and asked, ³How much?² I got it
for $1000, and drove it for many years as a daily driver. I had another,
with the 5-speed, but it got stolen. Luckily I had the cylinder head off
for repairs so I have all those parts; wish I had the 5-speed too.

If I can find the paint number I used for the wheels I will send it off to
you, it worked for me.

Take care.

How exactly did your car get stolen with no cylinder head on it? Just
curious,

The Twin Cam Times Portfolio the set of twenty quarterly newsletters I
wrote while Director of Region 16 in the ninties.

The portfolio is sold by CVOA and includes an index. It consists of
about 250,000 words on the history and technology of the Cosworth
Vega and includes detailed articles on virtually all of the CV's major
systems including "how to" restoration and rebuild articles,
performance tuning, and much more.

I don't know how bad the crack is but they are not a
stressed part. Epoxy, plastic steel, etc. are
potentials for fixing the vacuum leak part of it. The
ear as a mounting point made be the greater problem.
You may be able to drill in from the side and pin it
back in place depending on the nature of the break or
there is the carb on E-bay. Jim

I too had this problem many years ago. THe car ran
smooth but just had no pep (basically gutless). I took
the car to numerous GM shops to get it fixed in the
70's and no one could figure it out. THen I noticed a
sentence in the Chevy Power manual that alluded to
this being a birth defect with the tensioning design.
It turned out that one of the cam shafts had jumped a
cog (very cold weather start). Check the alignment
marks on the sprockets. If they don't line up
according to the book, you will have to de-tension the
belt (will probably require a new water pump gasket)
reset the sprockets in their correct alignment and
reset the ignition timing. This should help if thios
is the problem. You should be able to correct it in an
afternoon. I don't know if this is you issue but take
a look. thanks, Jim

Thanks Jim, it's nice to have a reply that can be helpful.

I've been scared of asking and I'm sure you know why...

I'll check it out ASAP and hope you might have helped me solve this
issue.

I'll let you know.

Al

Al John Cowall had a problem not running our poor performance and he
had something wrong with a camshaft the wrong one or they were on
the wrong side. I don't remember but maybe John could refresh our
memory. I don't have any real time numbers but when I get on to Rt
12 which is a 55 mph road, from where I get on to the first
driveway I pass (I don"t have a distance) the 3.8 mini van is able
to get up to 70 mph. The Cosworth will be doing 72 mph I use to have
a Mercury Cougar XR7 supercharged V6 but that was a few years back
but I think it could close to 90 but don't hold me to that. Due to
road construction I have to go a different way, but I can get there
a different way. I will get a distance and speed with my new car.
Its a 95 Audi 90 with high performance V6 single overhead cams
172hp/184ft.lbs torque 10.3:1 compression.
