Thanks Duke,
That compression ratio sounds pretty boost friendly.
The Cosworth makes good power numbers
for 2.0 liter and low compression. Any idea
what the injectors flow rate is? It is interesting that
people have run 10 PSI with a blower and picked up
80hp. That suggests considerable head-room from a fuel
system perspective.

I don't have any data on injection flow rates. I have no interest in
boosted CV engines and do not recommend it. It's a lot easier to
build a 200 HP 8000 RPM naturally aspirated engine that will live.

I was wondering about the speedo gear because there is one on Ebay
right now, Item # 2400648666. But I guess the one in my four speed
should be the same. So no point in getting that one.

I am asking $307.50 for the pistons - my cost plus about $12.50 for shipping
and insurance.

Stupid question # 48. What is the "PAIR"? And where is the MAP sensor
located?

Thanks for your help Duke.

For ever psi of exhaust backpressure you loose one psi of BMEP,
however, significant reductions of backpressure can upset fuel
metering and make a car run poorly, which is probably the source of
the myth "engines need backpressure". On the CV you can tweak the MAP
sensor adjustment to bias the mixture across the operating range if
poor operation from less backpressure occurs.

The CV suffers immensely from exhaust backpressure. For example, with
the OEM exhaust less converter and PAIR my engine made 109 RWHP at
6000. With my off road open exhaust and no fan it made 151 HP ad 6500
and was still climbing. (The MAP sensor was 1/4 turn rich) The fan
absorbs about 5 HP at 6500.

I recommend that you use a Walker Dynomax Ultraflow muffler. From the
data I have seen these seem to have the best combination of sound
attenuation and low backpressure, but it still might be loud without a
converter. If you decide to run a converter I would recommend a
modern monolithic converter as the OEM converter is much more
restrictive.

Use 2.5" pipe and mandrel bends are best, but expensive. A low
restriction exhaust system is the best way to gain useable power. The
next best way is probably reindexing the cams as has been discussed
here.

Unfortunately I have no manuals at this point. There were none with my car
when I purchased it. I have an owners manual on the way thanks to Chris
Wheaton, and I ordered a 1975 Service and overhaul manual "supplement" about
4 weeks ago off of Ebay, that I still haven't received yet. And I can't seem
to find the original Service and Overhaul Manual (I believe published in
'74?). So currently I am manualless. But am working on it. Hopefully the
wife will allow me to spend the money on the "tips and tricks" manual soon
as well. I do have one of the "Chevrolet Power" books with the Cosworth
section. Will it mention it in there?
Thanks

The PAIR are the chrome tubes that go up over the valve cover. They
are for emissions purposes. The MAP sensor is the almost cylinder
unit about the size of a fist to the upper right of the heater
core. It has a hose going to the intake manifold. There are 2
units that look similar, but the MAP is bigger and has a Allen screw
on the passenger side. The screw is used to adjust the air/fuel
ratio. Hope that helps.

The MAP sensor is bolted to the firewall and the PAIR is the nice shiny
chrome things going over the valve cover (Air Induction for emissions
control). I highly suggest not adjusting or playing with anything until you
get some manuals and/or help.
