It is an interesting article. I just don't know if I believe how he
explains away what most older techs have witnessed, when they were cutting
rotors on brake lathes.(high spots, with corresponding low areas, on the
opposite face of the rotor) The fact that the problem goes away after
resurfacing, kind of puts a small hole in his theory. The reason the
problem reappears, is that the only variable that was changed, was the
diminished amount of material, on the rotor. Vehicle weight, and the
driver's braking habits remain the same. With less metal, the problem
would come back sooner, because there would be less of a heat sink(rotor) to
bleed off the heat produced by the friction. Maybe I am just too old to
take in all this highly technical info, but the way I learned, and taught
the theory of brake warpage is probably what I will go to my grave
believing. My myth, and I am sticking with it.

There have been extras ordered. The price will be $150 total once
they are made. I am sure there will be posts on here once they come
out so keep your eyes open. They can be purchased through the CVOA.
Take care, Chris

Yes NE and Vega's don't generally mix well. The last time I saw one was
back in the mid 80's. A guy at work had a wagon with a 283 in it. I've
been going back and forth about CV for a few years. I remember seeing
them brand new at the local Chevy dealer, I also remember the price
difference from a "normal" vega!

Always liked the body style!

Enough boring babble for now

Thanks

I would think it would be a new generation honey comb
unit with 2.5-3.0 inlet/outlet pipes. Probably
something used on Vette, Camaro, Firebird, etc. but
I'm open to suggestions. THere is a 3" exhaust system
associated with the Firehawk. I'm looking for a way to
be semi-socially responsible while reducing any
redundancies and restrictions in the exhauast system.
I'm still just in the research stage so comments and
thoughts are very welcome. Jim

Jim, I recently had a complete 3" system installed, header to
tailpipe, with the honeycomb cat and a Flow Master muffler. I find
it a blast to drive, and definately notice performance increases, but
it is loud. Since I'm living my teenage years over again, I like it
that way. But heads do turn when I get on it. I think a more
conservative muffler would help, but I'm still in the ***k 'em-if-
they-can't-take-a-joke mode. Cops don't seem to mind, so I'll let
that be my guage for now. To my ears, it sounds worlds better than
any hopped up rice burner.

For what it's worth.

I'm still in my first adolescence, and using a small glass pack. It
makes the car so much more fun to drive when you can hear it. Plus,
everyone else thinks it's a lot faster because it's loud. I
remember when I replaced the stock cat with a new kind, the sound
almost doubled.

Jim,

I'm not sure how this would compare but my Shelby Charger I have only
has a cat on it. Sounds nice! Now the turbo does offer some restriction
but.....

<Which cat did you use? Thanks, Jim>

I'll have to ask my exhaust guy, I have no idea what brand it was.
He said it was just a catalized screen that the gasses pass through.
Since the car is emissions exempt here in WA, I'll never know how
good it is at reducing pollutants. I will, however, be adding to the
noise pollution in my area.

I've had success with needle nose pliers. Open them and place the tips on
either end of the bottom of the C-Clip. Push gently and be ready to catch
the clip on the other side. Good luck!

Subject: [Cosworth Vegas] Window channel strip replacement

I am trying to replace the rubber channel strips on either of the
door window. According to the Fisher body manual, and the '74 Vega
manual, aparently you need to remove or loweer the bump stop for the
window regulator to fully access the channel strips. In order to do
this, you need to remove the door panel. That's where my question
comes in. I have removed the door handle bezel and the arm rest. Now
I need to get the window crank handle off. How do I get it off? Looks
like there is a C-clip behind the handle, but I can't get to it. And
if I do get it off with a skinny screwdriver, I'm afraid I won't be
able to get it back on. Is there a special tool for removing and re-
installing the C-clip? If so, where do I get one, and does anyone
know the part number for the tool? Also, is there a tool to pry off
the door panel clips. I started to pry one with a small screw driver,
and heard a small crack, so I stopped.... Any suggestions.
Thanks,
Mike
