A bad brake hoses can retain pressure but perhaps not to the point
of locking a wheel but need attention. Jean-Guy.

You are absolutely right. While the hose my look good from the outside,
the inside can swell up and restrict the flow of fluid back to the master
cylinder. I have had this happen on more than one of my older
vehicles. Replacement of these hoses is cheap insurance.

Duke:

I have a 1975 with 36000 mi. It sat out for several
years at the beach, so the finish is in bad condition.
I have kept the car in a garage since 1988.
The original finish is crazed and open to the weather.
It has rust rosettes on the top panels and need to be
acid washed, also, there is no color left on the
wheels. I'm about to start a strip and refinish and
intend to use PPG bc/cc from substrate up.
What is the paint number for the wheels?
Also, who can refinish the dash panel?

Allan

PPG paint code for the wheels is DDL 82347. This is the acrylic
lacquer color coat. Follow with DAU-75 Acrylic Urethane Clear.

There is a detailed article in the TCT Portfolio on wheel
refinishing. You would be wise to buy the Portfolio from the Club
before starting. The critical path is the prep work - striping,
mechanically cleaning, etching, and conversion coating. Do it right
and the job will last indefinitely. I did mine 15 years ago and they
still look like new. A proper refinish will outlast the OEM finish by
a very long time because of the vastly more durable acrylic urethane
clear coat rather than the lacquer clear coat.

I'm thinking, a mix of candy yellow with gold pearl,
may work. I'll give it a try, if I can find the
ingredients someware.

I have tried a few candy golds and other golds but the fact that they
have metallic in them does not look good on the machine turning. You
can paint the bezel with the gold wheel paint or any other gold paint
but it just looks like a gold painted bezel. It has to be a
transparent paint with out metallic for it to be close. I just have
to find a way to lighten it up. Chris

Chris, The candy gold/yellow that was used on my motorcycle did not
have any metallic particles in the topcoat. All the metallic
particles were in the silver base coat which shows through the
translucent topcoat. Maybe they don't make real (top coat/base
coat) candy paints anymore. Luau_BoB

Jim, you forgot to sign you post - shame shame.

Anyway the Moroso pan is made using sock Cosworth and Vega oil pans
and modified with wings and baffles. I know I had a bathc made a
couple of years ago by Moroso (same pan as Hutton sold - where do you
think I got the pattern).

By the way Bill Hutton DOES NOT HAVE ANY OF THESE PANS LEFT SO DON'T
BOTHER HIM ASKING FOR ONE.

Later

Moroso (moroso.com)appears to make road race kit (PN
21950) for engines in general. THe pan I have looks
very much like that kit along with some sanitary sheet
metal work attached to the standard vega or cosworth
pan. You could get a compitent TIG welder to fab it
up for you (hint: most food plant welders are good TIG
welders). Jim

The Moroso kit won't solve the problem, you still have to use the
same mounting flange of the oil pan. The torque may be too high on
the bolts causing the leak. I think that the torque spec on that was
one of the misprints in the shop manual. If you torque it to the
specs, it bends the pan and you lose your seal. The shop manual says
25 ft/lbs but it really should only be 15 ft/lbs. That may be the
problem. Chris
