The 75/76 CV four speed is a "Saginaw" and was coded M20.
Special ratios were developed for '74, but were dropped and never made
it to production. They are listed in the '75 Cosworth
Vega four-page fold out sales brochure, but it's an error. Actual
production four-speed CV's have the same ratios
as the Vega four-speed - 3.11, 2.20, 1.47, and 1.00:1.
As far as I know, the ONLY difference between a 140 Vega
four-speed and a CV four-speed is the speedometer drive gear. The 140
version has a brown seven tooth drive gear to mesh with the 18 tooth
driven gear for a 2.93 axle, and the CV has a yellow seven tooth drive
gear to properly mesh with the 23 tooth driven gear for the CVs 3.73
axle.
That's the one hazard of using the 140 Vega transmission (or any other
H-body transmission) - either four speed or five-speed in a CV. The
23 tooth and 25 tooth driven gears that are required for a 3.73 and
4.10 axle respectively will not mesh properly with the brown drive
gear used in other H-body transmissions. You either have to
disassemble the box to replace the drive gear or run an adaptor with
the proper gear ratio to bring the speedo/odo back into accuracy.
