Battery Tray

I've read through some of the old messages here
and gathered that the battery trays are more or less
impossible to find for a Vega. So my question is what do
most poeple do that have had to repair or replace a
rusted out battery tray?

Battery Tray

Recently, I've experimented with a few different
solutions. My daily driver had no tray left and had rusted
completely through the inner fender. All you could see was
street where the battery should have been. I found an
earlier GM, looks to match a 67 GTO tray. Had the two
front tabs and a triangular rear tab. I drilled holes
and bolted it in place. With the battery installed,
it's hard to tell that it is not a Vega tray.

Also, CosworthParts.com gave me two trays to try out.
One was from a 70's Nova and another from a late 60's
camero. Mark Rock test installed both of these in one of
his cars. They sat a little high for his liking, but
could have been modified with a big hammer to fit a bit
better.
These 'other model' trays are available from repro
parts dealers for around $15 to $20. The early GTO tray
was easily unbolted from a junk yard find. Cost was
$5.

Battery Tray

I've heard a lot of people complaining about rusty battery trays, so
I thought I'd let everyone know there is one on Ebay. Item #
2402187358. That's a canadite for the rare Ebay items in the CVOA
mag.

Battery Tray

Chris

Brian Wetrich and I are trying to repop the 76 trays. They are of a
simpler design than the 75's, and they move the battery slightly
closer to the engine for better weight distribution.

You can see two cad-cam versions of the tray in the Photo Gallery
under the Other tab on the www.cosworthvega.com website. The
engineering drawings are just about completed, and we are already
investigating having the metal laser cut.

If we have success with the 76 trays, we may do the 75's as well.

There just aren't enough NOS trays out there to satisfy the demand--
just look at the price of the 76 on eBay now--it is already at the
level that a NOS 75 tray sold for a few weeks ago!

That is bad and good. Bad because parts are getting more expensive,
and good because it will drive up the price of the cars and will mean
that we may be able to charge enough for a repop tray to make it
economically feasable.

Mark
