Hey I was wondering if anyone out there has ever put a 4 bbl setup on a cosworth? Your input and thoughts would be appreciated----Dave

There was a guy at the 99 Vegas roundup with that
setup. I don't remember all the particulars, but I do
remember the raised hump on the right side of the hood for
air cleaner clearance. Maybe someone else can fill in
the blanks?

Craig.

Yes, Al Cone of Chicago made a 4bbl manifold and
was running a Carter AFB carb on it in Pittsburgh. It
worked but was not a pretty sight.

Consedering
there were no 4bbl manifolds made for the Cosworth you
would have to modify one from a regular Vega. This is
further complicated since the carb mounting surface is
angled to keep the carb parallel to the ground. When you
swap the manifold to the passenger side of the engine
the carb will angle towards the back of the engine.
To compensate you will need an angled carb spacer.

In addtiton you will have to cut and weld the
manifold to part of the existing EFI manifold in order to
mount it to the head. Not to mention a possible hood
clearance problem for an air cleaner assembly and having to
use the expensive Holley 390 CFM carb (granted it's
cheeper than a pair of Weber's).

You may want to
condsider looking into a used Weber Carb conversion
setup.

Good Luck

Tim

4 bbl set up

Dave:

I just uploaded 4 photos to my Mark
A. Rock's Photo Album. They are the last 4, labeled
Big Red. This unique vehicle was at the Roundup this
summer. I can't tell if the carbs are single barrel or
two barrel--single I suspect. Dick Baumhauer looked
on with incredulity, so he might remember better.
Brad Stone was with him. The car was there for a
while, so others might have additional information as
well. I never heard it run, so I don't know how
effective the setup was.

The photos should give you
an idea of how to begin using a stock intake
manifold. I saw the car in Vegas with the 4 bbl., but
didn't get any photos of the setup, at least not that I
recall. If you need a manifold to experiment with, let me
know. I have several.

He also had a unique
design for the exhaust as well. Reminded me of the
barrel under the neck of a St. Bernard, only he had two
of them. I can upload that photo as well if you're
curious.

Mark

Mark

Those are twin Rochester 2bbl carbs
mounted (ugly mounting) on a stock EFI manifold. It is
similar to the twin 2bbl set up Sonny Rossi had on his
Roadster that was here at the Houston Round Up. However
anyone who has seen any of Sonny's work (he has been
published in several Street Rod Mags) know's it's
"A#1".

If I can find any of the pictures he sent me I will
try to post.

One side note the twin 2bbl's
would require a hole be cut in the hood for
clearance.

Good Luck

The guy that had the 4bbl on his Cosworth at the
Las Vegas roundup was Dennis McLaughlin. He was
running a Holley 650 and had to pound a bubble into the
hood for clearance. He used wood for the spacer
adapter from the carb to I believe an Offenhauser
manifold. If you really want to see it, email me at
CSWRTH1@aol.com and I will reply with some pictures I have of it.
Later, Chris.
