DEX-COOL: Not cool at all

I like to put DEX-COOL in the same category as linerless aluminum blocks..
advanced products and engineering that does not work in the real world. As Dick
B.and others have indicated,GM is having a huge problem with DEX-COOL. Duke,I
would like to refer you to GM TSB #99-06-02-012D titled Rust in cooling
system,heater inoperative,engine overheats,(flush cooling system). Note the "D"
at the end of the TSB bulletin number. This indicates the THIRD revision of
this bulletin.
Having worked at a GM dealership for over 20 years as a technician and a
manager,I can tell you that DEX-COOL is the last coolant you want to put in
your CV. Unless of course you like to replace radiators, heater
cores,thermostats,radiator caps,waterpumps,surge tanks etc. etc.
And don't think that this problem is limited to just a few vehicles listed in
the bulletins....experience has taught me better.
If you think that this is just a few isolated cases,I would be happy to
supply you with cases of dozens of "DEX-FOOLED"
customers.
I am aware that you are a very fussy caretaker, but the other 99.999% of CV
owners are not and you are doing a disservice to the club recommending this
coolant, in my humble opinion.

DEX-COOL: Not cool at all

I've read the TB, but it was probably an earlier version. (If they
are online, can you provide a link?) I have not had any problems with
Dexcool in any of my cars and continue to believe that it will provide
superior corrosion protection based on my research and experience with
the product.

GM builds about over 5 million vehicles a year with Dexcool, going
back about seven or eight model years now, and I can't imagine that
all 35 million are having problems. I have definitely had problems
with conventional antifreeze clogging up the radiator tubes with
deposits.

I continue to recommend Dexcool, but everyone else is entitled to
their opinion.

Duke
