FIV removal question

Thank you all for all the help.

And Duke, you're right the FIS and FIV are to separate things, I
tend to forget as I get older.

My car runs fine with the FIV plugged off, it even starts properly,
the only problem is to keep it running when it gets very cold, I
need to old the throttle at 2000 rpm for the first 15-20 sec. after
that everything runs like it should.

No fan, no FIV and by the time the car reaches 100 deg., it runs
like new.

My question now is I'm worried about removing the FIV for repair,
I've heard in the past about shearing the thread in the cyl. head
upon removal???

How often does this happen? and should I be worried?

Thanks

Al

FIV removal question

Use a big T-handle to break it loose, so you don't apply a bending
load.

Reinstall it with pipe joint compound and torque it to spec, which I
believe is listed in the shop manual and AIM.

I have heard that damage has been done when attempting to remove the
FIV. Mine came right out. I guess you just have to give it a shot
and see what happens.

Duke
