block off plate

Postby h-bot » Sun Nov 17, 2002 2:54 am

From: doctorduke_REMOVE_877587_THIS_@yahoo.com

I asked one of my Corvette buddies who has some resources for parts
research to look into the radio block off plate, and this is what he
had to say:

The original plate for 71-74 Vega and Monzas as well
as 71-72 Chevrolet Caprice and Kingswood station
wagons was GM #3980381. This part was discontinued in
May, 1975 and replaced by GM #326202. The 326202 was
likely the PRODUCTION part for 75 Vegas and Monzas and
became the SERVICE replacement for the earlier models
mentioned. Evidently, the 326202 was just a slight
revision of the earlier part, so the 326202 still
carried the 3980381 number in the mold that was used
to produce it. This is quite common. The 326202 was
discontinued in 1984 and is found in parts group
10.256.

In any event, although not the original part for 71-74
Vegas and Monzas or 71-72 Caprice/Kingswood wagons,
the 326202 will SERVICE the applications perfectly.
There is likely just a small styling difference to
accomodate some 1975 interior trim change.

I should also have mentioned that it's very possible
that the 326202 plate was the PRODUCTION part for 73
and/or 74 as well as 75. I have no way of confirming
the 73-74 PRODUCTION usage, though.

Based on the group number reference, I verified that the 326202 is
listed as the service replacement for the 76-77 HV. This was likely
the original cover plate and you can probably verify with the AIM.

I'm new to this group and I don't own a Cosworth. I'd like to own one
in the future and add it to my H-body collection. The radio block off
plate number that was given 3980381 is correct. I have this part. The
part came off a 71 Vega. Above this part number is a logo IMC and as
far as the grain is concerned it's medium. Good luck with your search.
