Clark, another suggestion, go to the local auto parts store, and buy
an ignition module. This has been a problem for me in the past, and
can definitely be a spark problem. However, the more I think about
it, your problem could also be the coil. It should not be a plug or
plug wire, cap, or rotor, since the car pulls fine up to the 6100 RPM
range. It is a good idea to change all of it anyway. I know this is
redundant, but have you checked your timing lately?

Later,
John J. Cowall

P.S. If all else fails, put Webers on it and call it a day. LOL

John, thanks for the suggestions. I had the ignition timing checked
on the November dyno day and it was right on 12 BTC, normal. It was
not changed at that time due to no need. I will, however, go and try
to turn the distributor, to see if it has come loose. I plan on
replacing all the ignition parts next and take the car back to the
catalyst installer to have the new catalyst checked. I may even open
up the headers and drive it around the block to test if I have an
exhaust restriction before that. Won't the neighbors love
that!!??!!!
Now, if my problem is a high rpm (high load condition) failure of
some ignition part, wouldn't the continued pumping of fuel/air into
the cylinders when there is no spark cause some backfiring,
sputtering, explosion, or something when the ignition cut back in?
It makes no noise at all at any time other than those normally
wonderful Cosworth Vega engine sounds. Never a sputter or bang.
