Good Afternoon!
I am the new owner of CV 2711. It was my fathers, but he's in poor
health now and he passed the car on to me. Kind of a mixed blessing
really as the only reason he did this before death was the fact that
he couldn't get in and out of the car anymore.
I can remember as a kid listening to him talk about the Cosworth
project and wanting one of the cars when they became available. He
kept the 1974 issue of Motor Trend with the Cosworth article in it
for years! When the time came to trade our faithful 72 GT in for a
Cosworth he was doing a lot of travel and needed a few more creature
comforts. Driving between Memphis Tennessee and Pensacola Florida
every weekend for almost a year meant he needed A/C at least.
Combine that with my mother's admonition that he needed to buy a
wagon with an automatic so she could drive it and you can see how the
Cosworth dream was shelved for many years. Thus my first car, a 1976
Vega GT Estate Wagon with auto trans and A/C.
Fast forward to 1993, here in Texas where i found 2711 in Auto
Trader!! 44K miles on it and very little wear to show for it. We
made the deal and a couple of months later he came up and drove the
car back to Pensacola where it has been until now. The few months i
had it out here i DROVE THE HECK OUT OF IT!! What a fun car!! At
the time i had a 73 GT project and a 76 GT driver.(Another neat
little car, POWER STEERING AND TILT COLUMN!) Over the next few years
he had the car re-painted it's original Mahogany color and had new
stripes put on it. The guy that painted it WOULD NOT do wheels for
some reason. Consequently it's one of the first tasks i had to
promise to take on. ;)
I have spent the past several days going over all the previous
posts so that i would be an informed member. I have also sent in my
app for CVOA and should be hearing back from them soon. I've already
gotten a couple of e-mails from some of the region 12 guys and they
seem very friendly. Much more so than some other car guys i've been
involved with. Sorry for the long post but wanted to give some idea
of who i am and where i'm coming from! Last but not least, my name.
Thanks!!

Cliff Payne (CV2711)
