E-testing

I justmy race car after a 5 year sleep and wanted to reliscece it for
the street. Thus I needed an E-test.the first test HC ppm 456,253
with a 600 limit. CO%8.90,7.96 with a 3.50 limit. This is at idle and
2500 rpm repectively. Note the idle had to be @ 1200-1300 rpm. Not
good. Like mark I took it to a friends Corvair shop with an exhaust
gas analizer and in 10 min it would pass. The HC PPM 379AND 58 with
600limit and co%.78 and .32 with a 3.50 limit. The solution?
Just as duke and mark said a twist lean on the map sensor. The range
really is 1/4-1/2 once you are in the correct range. If it has been
fooled with it may take a turn or two. That why you need the machine
to see the results immmediately. Also when you go this lean it may
not have much power but it will pass. You can readjust later for
power, but make very small adjustments at a time. Finally I
should tell you that this was all ddone on a very tired race motor
that probable has alot of blowby ,2 leaky valve stem seals no pair
and a dead cat converter. The moral? these are very clean engines
with the F.I. and can be adjusted to pass under all but the worst
circumstances. I've had fresh engines pass the new car standards with
great power and all E-equip functioning.By the way in colo now
Cosworths qualify for collector plates wich means one E-test and
never again as long as you own the car and keep the plates current
for each 5 year periods.
