Utah does require testing every year. We also don't go exempt til '67.
I'm still trying to get 2037 to pass. I'm waiting for a catalytic
converter to get here.

Utah has this rule: "Vehicles not covered by manufacturer's warranty
may be eligible for cost waivers, provided certain contitions have
been met and all emissions control equipment is present and operating
properly. Owners of 1968-80 model year vehicles must spend at least
$100 on emmisions related repairs designed to fix the cause of the
excessive emissions. Owners of 1981 and newer vehicles must spend
$200 in repairs."

Well, a converter should get you to the hundred dollars. CA also has
some repair cost limits, but it only gets you a waiver to the next
test, and if the car has evidence of tampering, there is no limit.

I went to get my car tested at the local shop that can't pretest.
After doing some tuning yesterday I concluded that the car is probably
squeaky clean, and I don't need to pretest.

His machine was down, so I'll have to keep checking with him this week
to see when it's working again. At this point I am anxious to get it
done and get it behind me.
