haven't been on in a while , but check everyday, my opinion is it
sounds like the car your looking at is a pretty good deal ,buuuttt
be careful about it being repainted because you don't know what
their hiding ! paint is cheap but bodywork is not in other words was
it rusted out ! they slapped some plastic in it and then painted
it ! i know that most of the people give great info on mechanical
opinions but having restored a number of cars , i have found that
the money involved in body work and painting of a car can very
quickly out price any mechanical things that may need to be fixed ,
these cars (vegas in general ) have a notoriuos rep for rusting and
rightfully so ! you need to ask the seller what if any bodywork was
done before the repainting , be wary of these areas ,cowl area under
front windshield , rear piller post where the roof meets the rear
quarter panel , rear hatch at each lower corner of the glass , front
radiator support area including of course battery tray area , if any
of these areas have had work be for warned that the rust damage has
also affected the areas that may not be able to be seen . for
instance say there was a little rust on the cowl below the front
windsheild , chances are the floor boards will be rusted ,and theres
a good chance the actual dash panel will be rusted . lots of money
will be spent on proper repairs . its a lot easier to pull a motor
and have a rebuild done than to start doing any extensive body
work . rebuild would also probally be less expensive. you say that
the car has been repainted , when ? what kind of paint ? how was it
prepped before paint , what kind of primer did they use ? if it was
recent paint i'd would be wary , paint has a flow out period ,
sometimes it can take six months to see the results of the flow
out . fresh paint may look as smooth as glass than a few weeks as
the paint drys and the solvents evaporate , the paint shrinks giving
a orange peel effect. more wet sanding and buffing , more time and
money ! i'm just trying to give you somemore info in your search for
your car , one last point . i'm a details kind of person , by that i
mean i look at the small things like correct emblems , correct
interior pieces , little things that if their missing will add up
cost wise , just ask someone trying to find ;say plastic interior
pieces , pedal pads (ha, ha , mark) dash pads , etc! i would
defiantly rather have a car with a few mechanical problems and
crappy original paint , as long as the body was solid and all the
little things are intact. gary
