Everyone: If you thought Tips and Tricks I was worthwhile, wait till
you see Cosworth Vega Tips and Tricks Knowledge Base II. Now
shipping.

This volume picks up where the original Tips and Tricks left off,
with message 6331 on the Yahoo message board. It comes to a halt at
message 10,500, but does not stop there. It also includes
information from a variety of other sources, including my own
experiences during 27 years of Cosworth ownership, repair and
restoration; you'll also find a bit of humor to enhance your reading
pleasure.

This latest tome tips the scales at 396 pages of jam-packed 10 point
type, a spiral binding to make it easier to handle, and a vinyl rear
cover to enhance its durability on the workbench. While it was once
written that, "All Gaul is divided into three parts," the
same cannot be said here—it requires a ten page Table of Contents
to
list its sections and subsections. However, three sections do stand
out as being the most useful/educational. They are:

Engine/Power/Buildup/Components

How To

Problems/Solutions

Often described as the heart and soul of the Cosworth, the section on
the Twin Cam engine shares center stage. Coverage ranges from a
discussion of the alloy in the block, through the camshafts, to the
connecting rods, to the pistons, to aftermarket sleeves, to the
valves, guides and seals, and ultimately to the water pump. This
topic spans 75 pages.

Sometimes it is hard to know just how to accomplish a repair or
restoration. Fear not, for the topics in the How To section range
from adjusting the valve lash through evaluating and buying a
Cosworth to installing a cam cover and gasket, continue with
instructions on how to remove that stubborn alternator bolt spacer,
harmonic balancer and hood, and conclude with instructions on how to
wake a long-stored Cosworth. All in all there are 46 separate topics
spanning 25 pages.

Finally, at the center of center stage, is the Problems/Solutions
section—83 pages of problems Cosworth owners have experienced,
most of which have been solved. The potential for learning is
greatest here as the discussions are replete with decision trees and
useful and helpful suggestions. Odds are that if you encounter a
problem with your Cosworth, somebody else will have experienced it as
well; this section can save you the trouble of reinventing the wheel,
and time, money and aggravation as well.

Want a dash of frivolity? Fear not. Check out the Self Deprecation
section to see what a few members have said about themselves, never
thinking that their words would be culled and presented in a
collection. Also, check out the various "Senior Moments"
that many, including your Editor, have been heir to.

Still not sure? Take a careful look at the Table of Contents posted
at www.cosworthparts.com to see the enormous range of topics covered
in Vol. II.

Though this book has more pages than its predecessor, and though
publishing costs have increased, the price remains at $60. Alas,
shipping is no longer included. Send a check or money order for $67
to Mark A. Rock, 25480 Nichols Road, Columbia Station, OH 44028-9525,
and I'll send your copy out by return mail.
