I searched the archives and couldn't find anything that address the
factory speakers. My car has the original AM radio in it, that has
not worked since I've had the car. I purchased an AM/FM 8 track off
of ebay that listed that they did not know if it worked or not, so I
got it for a good deal. I pulled the AM radio out, and hooked up the
8 trach radio. That's where my first problem started. Only 2 of the 3
connections fit. The power connection, and the front speaker hook up
worked fine, however, the rear speaker plug was different.
But putting that aside, after I hooked up the power and front
speaker, this radio didn't work either. I then decided to test the
factory speakers, and sure enough, neither front or rear speaker
worked. So I hooked up a newer speaker to my old radio, and to the
new AM FM 8 track, and both radio's worked fine, even the 8 track
that I tested with an 8 track I picked up at the thrift store. So now
I have 2 working radio's, and no speakers.
My question is, has anyone ever replaced the speakers with
aftermarket? If so, what did you buy? With the way that the front
speaker mounts to the underside of the dash, I don't see how you
could replace it with anything but an OEM. I have yet to pull the
rear speaker out to see how that mounts.
If an aftermarket is not able to go into the factory spot, does
anyone have a front and rear OEM speaker that they want to sell?
Also, the 8 track radio is much thicker than the stock AM, and
requires a narrower, or thinner, mounting bracket. The mounting
bracket I have has an "AM" stamped on it. So I am assuming there is a
different one for the 8 track player. Does anyone have one of those
they want to sell as well?
Can I buy a plug somewhere for the rear speaker hook up out og the
back of the 8 track?
Thanks,
Mike
