buy far i,m not the best, but after about 19 yrs.
of building my own Vegas and Monzas and the many
i've built or had hand my hands on ,of other peoples'.
i can tell you what i know...
i'm a Vega kinda
guy. i swear by hooker or td front mount set-ups.
this is my blue-print...
the vega and monza have
tin in front of the rad. cut all this crap out to
expose more of the rad.
BE CAREFUL: not to cut all
your mounting metal away, think about what you need
and what you don't.
Radiator:1967-1969
CamaroFirebird 21 inch, i've always used a 3-row( i'm sure with
the right touch a person could persuede a 4-row)will
work in vega. FACT: a guy could cut, and box in the
would be frame to accommedate a wider width.
Fan:
your regular ole flex fan.
Electric Fan: viewer
descretion, i use the largest i can find, there are all kinds
of them out there. some only rotate one way
efficiently. i use them as pushers on front. for the saftey
factor ,just in case i do reach an uncomfortable temp.
for me that is around 220.
FACT: since every
engine is diffrent and do react to temp alittle
diffrently in some cases the more blades on your electric
fan may cause more problems than good ,they can
hinder the amount of airflow through the rad.
Water
pump: sbcstock short stlye for corvette.
Thermostat: recently i just cut the center out of one, as a
homemade restrictor. yes i know they sell them just tried
it .usually i run a 195. but it climbs to 210.
Shroud: a must... i use a chrome wrap around, rad
mounted. seems to work great.
my car has a regular
heater core, i drive it all over. it seems that this
reciept has always done me good. my hometown is Salem, OR
temp is average.
FACT: an airdam or front spoiler
works well also.
TIP: when cruising, and temp
reaches hotter than normal, OPEN ROAD... run the car up
to a good speed, put the car in neutral and coast
almost to a stop, place the car back in gear and temp
should have dropped a bunch. friend showed me
that.
