I believe most auto parts stores sell junk, like
napa, advanced, o'rilies, car quest. If you have a
small home town parts store, thats the best bet.
But
those auto parts places also sell good stuff, you just
have to know the rebuilder or the parts.
Know the
manufacture of new parts, some have a good name but have been
bought out by some other company and dont have as good
standards as before.
Like u-joints-spicer and dana are
good. You just have to know whats good. I get most of
my parts from Jegs, 1-800-345-4545, Ya you have to
wait a couple days but you get what you pay for. and
there is no shipping charges. Or Summit is also good, I
havent done much with PAW. It's like Camshafts, I only
use Comp Cams, I've used Summit no name brand and
have had bad cams. Some good. I just believe you get
what you pay for. I almost got my 406 71 Vega running
again, I cant wait! Later Curt

well ok lets call parts place rip off artists and
hang them.
I hate to tell everyone but quite a few
parts places sell the same part its just boxed and
waranted by the seller.
Did anyone know that Auto Zone
premium line electrical parts are remanufactured by Best
Parts Inc. a parent division of Raybestos brake parts
and many others but the rebuilt parts can come from 4
suppliers.Advance sell rebuilt electrical parts from 7 different
suppliers but they come in under 2 or 3 different
lines.
NAPA buys from Rayloc(ooppss Raybestos and parent
company again)Car quest buys from may suppliers.
Now
we can bitch about all the parts places but I use
parts from NAPA and Auto Zone with no problems.I dont
like Carquest since I have had bad problems but others
just think the world of them.
The other mechanic in
our shop was slamming Atuo Zone Duralast starters and
when it wouldnt start he blamed the starter.
It was
corroded double battery cable(its an older fwd old 88)on
the positive,BUT he automaticly thought it was
starter and quit working on it and since it was my
cousins car I stayed over my lunch ,pulled starter and
tested it and it worked so I went looking for the actual
problem as we couldn even jump it at starter
solenoid!
Gues what ?It was that goofy gray"looks like mettal
but istnt" corrosion the you have to scrape off to
get metal, then it started right up.
But i do hate
wal mart batteries, as everyone I have to
install/reinstall try to cross thread as they have junk
terminals.
Oh well just my $.02 worth,
Lee
