thats too funny.i hear that alot, people wanting
there batterys installed,headlights,assorted
bulbs, wipers.one guy had the nuts to ask me to put his serpentine
belt on his taurus, told him no.
he gets pissed
says:"well, give me my money back for the belt then" i said no
again.another satisfied idiot of the day.i used to have a
asshole of the day board at work, owner made me take it
down because i had one of his buddies names up
there.like i said before, these people used to really piss me
off,but now i find them as entertainment.i get depressed
if i dont get at least one goofball during the
day.what really makes me mad is the lazy husband who has
his wife call and ask me for parts,he gets pissed
because she doesnt know anything, and of course i have to
ask her questions.so she shouts back and forth to
him.idiots a'plenty out there,no doubt.they come from all
walks of life,rich/poor,etc,etc.i have only had to call
the cops on two guys in 20 years,so i can usually
handle whatever comes up.the one guy was about 75 years
old, police had to ecsort him off the property, and he never
bought anything from me,he was just pissed because his
mitsubishi alternator was $335 and not $45 like the one on
his '74 f100.he was screaming obscenitys,frothing at
the mouth, you had to be there.

I had the same xperience,as the asst manager of
the Auto dept at Woolco.Husbands sending their wives
w/ a shopping list. This was when the General was
putting anybody's motor in every others make and
model. Most of the time I called the manager and told them I
was going out to the parking lot to copy the
VIN.These women were exasperated. And I told them that they
should send the Hubby to get the right parts, the first
time.I actually had some irate know-nothing hubbies tell
me off for telling their wife this.I usually asked
if they knew their land barge Buick had a Chevy
motor in it?
Huh?what? No way.it's a Damn
Buick!
Yeah, right,SIR,check the pollution sticker on the rad support.I
actually had to put my finger on it to prove
it.
I,too, would help out a lil ol woman or a young mom w/3 kids
put parts on the car. But,the men, except for really
old ones, just got a polite brush off.And the standard
we have three bays and 2 mechanics, fill out this
work order. But that will cost me money!
Geez,if
they can't afford to fix it,why buy it?
Frank.

Oh,yeah. And these are the same numb-nuts that
don't think twice about blowing $100 at the stupid golf
course every week.Or stuffing $20 bills into the
g-strings of dancers at the tittie bar.Man,that is a
hi-tork starter,etc etc.

I
work part time at schlep boys(5yrs) and i subscribe to
the same philosophy. The bottom line is that when you
deal with the public, you have some really sucky days
brought on by people who are unclear as to where your
responsibility to them ends. One of the things I get is guys
that want to beat speed shop prices through our
special order system, very unlikely. I know some guys here
have been bitching about parts guys a lot,but this
seems to be a generalization to some degree. I work
with plenty of kids who don't know a tire from a
wheel, but I can remember not knowing the difference either.
Then sometimes the person your dealing is just an
asshole, regardless of what side of the counter your on. Just adding
my 2 cents,Dave

Just to put my .02
in for the day, I used to work at a NAPA about 6
years ago. I had this guy come in who knew just enough
about a wrench to be dangerous. He needed new u-joints
for his AMC Eagle 4wd (remember those??). He asked
how to change them. I showed him the simple method
that those were held in with (straps). He comes back
the next day to chew my ass because when he was under
the car, it rolled off one of the jack stands and he
hurt his chest (or something like that). I just stood
there and stared at him for a moment and thought to
myself "Why the Fxxx is it my fault". The owner of the
store was standing there and took over the
conversation, he firmly put this guy down...I hate dealing with
the general public...

Overall though I did
enjoy that job. I learned alot, and was able to educate
ALOT of people on how simple a car actually
is...
