I am very interested in buying a set of 7.5"
gears for the stock GT rear for my 76 Vega. Does anyone
have a set of 3.50 to 3.73's laying around? Or does
anyone know where to buy a set from? Also how do I find
out what carrier I have, my stock gear ratio is
2.93?....thanks, my car ran a 12.24 at 113mph at Speedworld in
Phoenix this last Friday and I need some gears to get in
the 11's..thank for any thoughts ....Jordan

Jordan, if you have 2.93 gears then you have a 2
series carrier. The lowest factory gear that can be
installed on a 2 series carrier is a 3.08. For a 3.23 or
lower you have to have a 3 series carrier. There are
aftermarket gears that will allow you to install a 3 series
gear on a 2 series carrier but you do have to use the
special conversion bearing in order to use any of these
gears. Clyde

Going to be hard finding those gears. Easier to
use the S10 Gears from a yard. The conversion
bearings ran me around 65 and I picked up a 3.73 Limited
slip from a yard for 100. Either way you look at it
once you buy a new set of gears they normally run
around 200. For me it was cheaper to do the S10 gear
swap.

I know this is probably redundant.Overall tire
dia, and final gear ratio go hand-in-hand.A short tire
w/ a high gear will act alot like a 'standard size'
tire w/ a steep gear.
I had 3.73's in a 4-spd '73
Z/28 w/ G50-15's,and later,L50-15's.The "buzz" at
hi-way speeds was body/mind numbing on the long hauls!I
was still'humming' after not driving for hours.
I
guess this doesn't apply for the limited street/strip
guys.Just scooting from red light to red lite.
I have
3.73's in the '97 Blackbird Ram'Air w/ a 6-spd,thank
goodness for the overdrive gears.
Four gears to go
fast, and two gears to save gas.
Frank.

Well if its going to be so hard to find gears
then can someone give me some information on the S10
gear swap. What exactly is involved in it? I have
access to a S10 rear from a junkyard but what exactly do
you have to do besides change the bearings? Can I
just swap in a set of S10 gears into my carrier and
use the new bearings, is it that easy???? Please let
me know what I am up against here because either way
I need a set soon cause I am planning another trip
to the track. Thanks for your thoughts. Jordan
