Electronic Problem with '86 Suburban:

Dad & I are having some trouble with his 1986 350
Suburban. I have been out of the new car scene since 1992,
so I hope a few of you might be able to help us out.
Here is what we are experiencing:

All at
once, the vehicle has become hard to start. The first
thing I noticed was the mixture solenoid (Elec. Q-Jet)
was not clicking. I checked the connectors and
discovered it will click for a while, then stop.

We
primed the carburetor and started the engine. The
'choke' light is now on. The vehicle is now poping the
'guages' fuse as soon as you install it.

We have
looked for a possible short with negative results. The
alternator was also tested recently and all grounds appear
to be in good condition.

The EGR valve has
vacuum all the time, even when the engine is cold and I
verified the vacuum routing. I believe this is a bad TVS
Switch and this problem existed long before the 'choke
light' problem.

The vehicle gives the standard
'Code 12' when scanned.

Your time and
attention is
appreciated...Robert

Also, the EGR valve is on all the time even
though the vacuum hose routing is correct.
