Robert,
for the blowing fuse check the choke
wire and oil pressure wires i havd a similar problem
on a
camaro, fuse kept blowing and the insulation
was rubbed trough on a wire near the oil pressure
switch,it could be the switch itself too
For the
EGR,
it should be hooked to a ported vacuum source on the
carb then TVS switch then the EGR
someone might
have changed the TVS switch wit ha wrong one or the
switch is bad

Denis

robert youre suberban is deffently suffering from
a short the best and safest way to find the short
would be to use a 30 or 40 amp circut breaker as this
will allow the wire to stay hot for a while but not
damage anything except posibley the guilty wires coating
and if you feel for hot wires then youll find the
propper wire to investagate....please dont use water or
tin foil as these ways leave way for a chance to burn
youre car to the ground once the short is repaired i
think youll find most of youre problrms will be solved
hope this helps

Electronic Problem with '86 Suburban

I finally found some time to drive over to Dad's
(22 miles) and take long look at his Sub. We
discovered the Choke Coil was shorted out. Simply replacing
the coil was all it took to correct the
problem.

The EGR problem is a bad EGR solenoid. Again,
simple replacement solved the problem.

Thanks to
all who posted. I really do appreciate it!!!...Robert

OH well, i feel like i went overboard with my cut
wire and bad oil pres. switch... i forgot to tell you
to check the basic first
For the EGR valve,
you're sure it isn,t supposed to be hooked to a ported
vacuum source?

According to the parts manual, 1986 doesn't have this electronic EGR, but Dad's does. This is confirmed by the underhood decal too.

Straange...Robert
