I thought that those rear facing scoops on the Daytonas and Superbirds front fenders were to cover the tops of the front tyres?

dual purpose.Yet,the Talledaga Torinos and
Mercury Cyclones did it w/ creative ducting thru the
fenderwells.Seems the early aero in NASCAR and CAN-AM led to some
interesting ducting and venting.
Erc in Norway esponced on
an early aero experiment where pieces of knitting
thread was taped to the body of the car and photographed
and taped to determine air flow.
Also,a water psi
meter can be set up in the interior w/ the intake hose
positioned at different locations on the body to see how
much air press is pushing the water up the tube,or
pulling the water out of the tube. This will give you high
and low press. areas.
A poor man's wind
tunnel.

your wright about the scoops on the fenders, but
taking out the shock plugs would gain you no benifet, if
you take a flat peice of plastic and put a few long
oval holes in it and attach it to the lower edge of
the radiator support and the other end on to the
k-frame[ 99% of new performance cars use this same systym]
you will have stopped about 45% of the air going into
the engine compartment, and should in no way disrupt
the cooling affect, you may want to take a few
measurement and go check out a few newer rides to see if you
can use the shields and hardware, i'll bet it would
work off of a camaro 96-up or some other med size
performance car or truck

Two ideas.
Louvers in the hood in a stylish design.
Or a cowl induction hood/scoop.

how about this instead of cutting one or two big holes in the inner fender drill a bunch of small holes evenly you wont get as much air flow but it will be stronger.

Put a straight dam directly under the radiator, it's one of the most effective cooling aids when the car is moving
the cowl hood and vents will help a lot too

It seems to me that if you could fabricate a sheet
metal or plastic cover to fit under the entire front
undercarriage to about half way back of the engine, and you put
a slight radius downward along the rear edge, this
would in theory, anyway, create a low pressure area
under the car at the rear of the engine/firewall area.
It seems that this would help to scavenge hot air
from the engine compartment when the vehicle is
moving.
Wouldn't be too much help at idle
though....
Just a thought...

Rob.

Hey Robert.

Yes I gues there are high
preasure in there and that needs to come out.

I am
thinking of a different kind of air dam one who is making
vacum and sucking hot air out.
I will take a picture
as soon as I have the prototype up.
I will be
testing a lot of things.

The plastick in the shock
openings are gone anythig that might work is under
consideration.

I have a set of extra louvers from a vega wagon
rear fender and I am considering putting them in
there.

Smoker hmmm thats a god idea thanks Robert.

Yepp
another modificatin in the bunch of already modified
stuff.

Thanks, I have cowl induction hood Z-28 2 1/2" tall fibre glass hood.

This only gived the carb cold air.

Yes thanks thats what I have been trying to
explain.

I am mounting a stragiht dam directley under the
radiator and hopes to create vacum behind it to suck hot
air out of the engine compartment.

Hey thans more good ideas.

Yes I have been
thinking about that it the straight air dam does not work
I will try that.

I have a lot of aluminium
in my garage :)

The only problem is the idle
part...

Erik,
How far are you from Tromso? Are there
any visible remains of the German Battleship Tirpitz
left in the fjord?

I have long wanted to visit
that site and see the U-3503 on display in Sweden.
Probably never get the time to do either one...Robert

Hey Robert planning a visit? :)

Hmmm about
2000 kilometers or other end of Norway almost.
Oslo
is in the south of Oslo Tromsø(=Tromso) is way in
the North. I was there in the military cold place we
had -32 degrees celsius and still sinking. That was
this time of winter.

So go in the summer is the
best you also got the midninght sun that is
spesial.

No sorry the Battle ship has been cut up and the
steel reused.

Were in Sweden is that
U-3503?

If you visiting your so very welcom I am so sorry we
have only a smal apartment with one bed room.
Or
else you could stay in our home we will get our own
house in a few year.

Hope to see you soon
Robert.

To all, Remember that the elecetric fans still
pull HP, they do it by loading your electrical system.
This mean your alternator is having to generate power
then pass it onto your fan motors. I would speculate
that to pull the same amount of air as a mechnical
fan, an electric fan will put a higher load on your
engine than the mechnical fan. Someone should test this.
However, on the drag strip it is easier to shut the
electrics off than the mechnicals....

Just my
2cents,

Jeff in Dallas.

>> I even thought about leaving the plastic
shock opening plugs out of the inner wheelwells and let
some high pressure vent there into the wheelhouse.

But, the small diameter opening probably wouldn't flow
much air. <<

Robert, this is what I
did(well sort of!) and it helped quite a bit! I did it
becuase I forgot to put them back in after installing new
shocks. I was surprised that at idle, I ran a good 5-7
degrees cooler. At speed it made no difference, only at
idle.
