trans cooler lines

Where can I buy a set of replacement trans cooler
lines for my 76 Monza w/ turbo 350?

Do I have to
buy straight lines and bend them myself? IS it
possible to use a rubber line all the way to make it
easier to route?

Right now I'm running stock
exhaust (v-8) but will go to Sanderson headers in the
next few months and straight into the trans
cooler.

My current set up is odd. It appears to be 2 - 2
foot sections of tubing joined right by the exhaust
manifold on the pass side and it leaks there and may also
be leaking by the connection at the trans.

If I can get new lines, I want to rioute them out of
the way of the exhaust to keep them
cooler.

Thanks

Adam

Adam, your best bet is to get some tubing and
make your own the way you want them. If you decide to
try to use hose all the way, I would suggest you only
use steel braided hoses to avoid any trouble in the
future. Trans fluid catches on fire very easily on hot
exhaust.

I would suggest picking up a set of lines from a
Nova or Camaro in the junkyard. Then, just alter the
front section as required.

You may find that
headers will require different cooler line routing, so
proceed with caution in this area.

If you use
rubber line, keep it as short as possible (6") and use
the correct transmission cooler hose with fuel
injection style clamps.

Also, when attaching hoses
to metal lines, flare a 'ball' in the tubing using
only the first stage of the double flaring tool. This
will ensure the hose stays in place.

I hope
this information is helpful...Robert

Is the tubing available at any auto parts stores? I have a tube bender but have never used it. Is it the same tubing as brake lines?

Thanks

Adam

I bent my own lines using steel brake lines from
Auto Zone. I chose to route them up the passenger

wheel well and under the lip where the fender bolts on,
to the radiator. I used a small section of rubber
hose on the lines from the tranny ( for ease of
removal and how difficult I thought making the correct
bends might be into the fittings on the tranny ).
Besides, the
area beside the starter and on forward
adjacent to the engine was very cramped. Additionally, I
placesd an in-line filter next to the radiator where it
would be easy to change. The Buick powered Skyhawk has
the battery on the driver's side.
A previous post
on the small flare on the tubing
is right on. I
didn't do this myself, but used two clamps per side on
each hose. So far, so good.

Any NAPA or decent auto parts store should carry
the lines in various lengths. You can get either
5/16" or 3/8" tubing, whichever you prefer. I used 3/8"
line for my Vega. The lines I used were 48" long, and
I ran them from the trans, along the pan rail, and
out the front near the right front of the K-member
mounting location, to a high efficiency trans cooler in
front of the radiator. It's not too hard, especially if
you have a good bender.
