Ben,

I just bought a set of B. F. Goodrich
T/A P215/50SR13, mounted them on Monza steel 13"x6"
wheels and then installed them on my 1975 Buick Skyhawk.
The clearance is very close on the inboard side, but
they do fit. A 1/4" spacer would be better. If you use
the spacer, I would recommend changing the wheel
studs to a 1/4" longer set. The stock studs have only
10 turns for the lug nuts to grab onto the threads
and the 1/4" spacer will use up 5 of those turns. Be
sure that your rear axle housing is centered before
fitting the tires. It is possible that you may have to
hammer in or grind some the material off of the frame
plate to get clearance on turns. I didn't have to do
this, but know of some who did. P205/60SR13 should fit
without a problem.

Good Luck,

Richard

Unless you really like your stock wheels, I would
never run spacers or any kind of wheel adapter. If you
do be sure to check your lugs often if you drive
alot. 4 bolt wheels are very cheap any more, last year
I picked up 2 13+7 aluminum slots with tires for 10
bucks, I also found 3 15+7 centerline auto drags {satin
finish} 1 still in box other 2 never had tires or stems
mounted at Randolph 2 years ago for 60 bucks all 3. So I
suggest looking for rims than running spacers. I just
sold 2 13+5.5 & 3 13+7 crager ss's in presentable
condition for 40 bucks.

What's wrong with running wheel spacers ?? I have 1/4 inch spacers on my '79 monza hatchback and they hold up to a 10.12@136 .

Wheel spacers are built to fit many apps. to 1
spacer, so fit is marginal. When you put on alot of
miles, drive hard they will loosen. If you don't keep an
eye on them a wheel can come off!!!
If you only
Drag your car or limited use FINE. It's a shortcut
that I would not want. I'm an ASSHOLE at times but I
don't want to see anybody get hurt!!! I don't believe
in shortcuts when it comes to what you roll on..

I have bfg 235-50/13 on my '79 sunbird and they
are close to the inner wells. I have drove the car on
the ice(cutting donuts) and they only rubbed the
undercoating, not even enough to take it off the fenderwells. Too
bad you can't find these anymore. I have them mounted
on the 13"x7" snowflakes. They leave about a 9 1/2"
footprint. The only downside is these tires are only about
22" tall, but with 2.29 gears, it's not too bad.

The problem with the wheel spacers is they will
cause the studs to shear off. If you can run that with
stock studs and wheel spacers, you have evidently never
seen studs shear off. Not pretty. If you are running
aftermarket studs, they highly recommend not running spacers.
There is a sight, maybe ARP, not sure, that shows the
stresses put on bolts. With the spacers, there is more
than one shear point. Maybe there is a reason for the
name SUICIDE MOTORSPORTS!!!!!!!

Wheel spacers are a disater waiting to happen.I
have been in two different vehicles over the years
that have tossed a tire due to the wheel working
itself loose. I almost rolled my 56 Chevy hardtop due to
this back in 1982.The tire came off the driver front
and stood up as the car climbed right over it and put
the car up on the passenger side tires!Damn near went
over! No more wheel spacers for me!!!Bill in AZ....

actually spacers are junk unless you can make
them fit tight to studs and increase th spline length
of stud into spacer BUT there is a better set up I
have sold in the past i forget the company name but
they make billet steel and aluminum wheel
spacers/adapters up to 4 inches thick.(the thick ones are 3 piece
and bolt together with some serious ataching
bolts)I'll post name, addrtess and pn of company after I
find it.
Dont get me wrong i think 4 inches is a
lot but i have seen a set of 80 something corvette
rims on an old nova with large adapters and slicks and
he is still running them.

I have a pair of 1" bolt on spacers in the rear
that I bought from Performance Wheel and Tire in
Colorado (link below). They were $122.50 including
shipping.

There is a pic of the adapter in my
briefcase under "79 Monza HB",

Absolutely, that's what I'm running presently on my 79
Skyhawk. Prolly most of the folks here have run that size
at one time or another.

thanx for the site but they are no help, they
wont change the number of lugs, why not? this was a
common mod years ago and now no one makes a spacer plate
to convert a 4lug axle to a 5 bolt rim? If this
billet is so d... strong they could do anything they
want with it right. sorry to bitch but this conversion
should be a lot easier than it is they used to make bolt
on 5 lug rotors too not now, u have to change
everything. maybe a machinist could help me we apparently
lost a whole bunch of 70s and 80s technology.

HERES AN OFF THE WALL IDEA. THEY WON'T CHANGE 4
LUG TO FIVE LUG,BUT THEY WILL CHANGE THE 4 LUG
PATTERN. HOW ABOUT CHANGING TO A MORE POPULAR 4 LUG
PATTERN LIKE (SORRY FOR THE FOUL LANGUAGE) A MUSTANG.
THEY MAKE ALL KINDS OF RIMS FOR THEM.
TIM

Tim, They can do that. Checked on a set to adapt
a set of 100mm wheels and can get them for $50.00
each or can have the wheels redone for $50.00 each.
Works either way, jsut wish I had the extra $200.00 I
would go pick some up. I am in Castle Rock just south
of Denver for right now, so do not have to worry
about shipping currently.
