I am sure your letter will get a lot of really
cool stories, mine is pretty neat to me so I guess
I'll pass it on.

When I bought myfirst monza, a
1979, I bought it with all of the Sypder options, but
not as the Spyder package. The car was black, crome
trim, and every option I could put on the car. The
engine was the 3.8, and I drove the car from the chevy
dearly to the buick dealer and picked up all of my new
hard parts. I good friend of mine at the time was
starting a speed shop, and he offer a great deal on
building my engine up a bit. We(well he did) put Stage II
heads, a cam of his specs, Holly dominator intake,
custom built headers with real duals, and a Holly 500cfm
carb. To keep it legal, the cat was modified so that it
could be put onto the car, but when removed, two pipes
replaced it. We kept most of the emissions stuff on the
car, but most of it was made to look right, but was
made non-functional. This allowed it to pass
'visuals'. When everything was done we put on some Hoosier
tires on the back and made some passes at the strip.
The best it every ran that day was 13.8! I however
was still a newbe so a never got better than 14.low
somthing.

Now that it was running great, I took my
little v6 out on the town. I used to run a '70 Cutlass
W30, and always loved to stomp some of the other
street fighters with it so I had a pretty good
reputation with the olds. When I showed up in a buzzy little
six, I got more than just a giggle or two! Even the
babes made fun. Utill the first race. I went up against
a '71 350 Camaro. I had always just beaten him with
the Cutlass, and now he wanted blood. He had always
ben one of the faster cars I had raced, but I thought
I could give him a run for his money. I did not
beat him by much, but afterwards, his date was in my
car(her choice!), and nobody laughed anymore. I miss that
car more than any car I have ever
owned!

Cheers,
Jeff in dallas
