1980 sunbird monza clone

I just bought a 1980 monza clone, pontiac
sunbird, it has a 3.8 litre buick engine, its automatic
floor shift, the interior is in excellent to very good
shape. it is blue out and black and blue in. there is no
visible rust from the outside and the interior is in
awsome shape.
but the motor has blow-by.
I payed
$50 for the car. It didnt run when i bought it, the
last owner moved the distrib and didnt know how to get
it back in place, of course she didnt mention the
motor had blow-by.
will thicker oil help this
condition?
I have a chevy 350 in my garage and want to ask if
i can put that in this car?
I know monza's came
with small block chevy motors in them, but can a
sunbird accept a small block.
will i need to get a new
tranny? driveshaft?
It would be a shame to put this
car in the recycling yard just cuz of some minor
probs, considering the great shape of the interior and
body.
thanks for any tips from anyone that answers.

Yes you can put a 350 in a 1980 sunbird I just
did it. 79 sunbirds came with smallblocks If you can
find the motor mounts fron a 79 they will bolt right
in. I suggest using the monza oilpan or sunbird pan,
when I did it we had to install the engine and tranny
at the same time, use the tailshaft off the original
tranny as it has the mounts for the tourque tube, monza
manifolds also help. hope this helps you out if u have any
more questions just post em and I'll try to help T.J.

If you end up not wanting to undertake the 350-conversion task, please let me know. I'm looking for a solid V6 car.

You can use 20W50 as long as it does not get to
old. Just make sure there is no oil in the water or
water in the oil. If that is the case then eitner do
the 350 engine/trans swap or rebuild the
Buick.

The 3.8 is a good motor and will give better weight
ratio than a small block, but V8 is always nice. At
least it is in my Monza with a 4 speed :)

Call it what you will. All 1975 thru 1980 Monzas,
Skyhawks, Starfires, and Sunbirds are H-Body production
cars. They all have the same basic dimensions. Any GM
engine, 4, 6, 8, will fit in these cars and the vast
majority of parts are interchangable. So, go have blast
and do anyhting you want to your 'Bird. Oh, by the
way,I think the Starfire/Skyhawk dash pad and gauge
cluster is much classier looking and a better layout, 6
pods, than the Monza/sunbird setup.
