i'm not too worried about the torque, am going to
3.23 from 2.73 gears and am running 205/60 r13. as far
as building the v6 had to put a few goodies in it. i
started for a v6 out of a 81 or 82 buick regal t-type
(turbo). the important thing with this was the factory
steel crank. use apr connecting rod bolts to further
add some further insurance. trw flat top forgued
pistons and steel head gaskets. (worked out to about
10.8:1). the guy who helped me build it cc'd the heads.
can't remember the size of the valves but you can now
slit a hair between the intake and the exhaust. the
valves where swirl tip stainless steel held in by double
valve springs. when we build the heads we cc'd them to
even up the chambers. again i can't remember for sure
but i believe they came out to about 44 cc's. we
weighted all the pistons and wrist pins and connecting
rods and assembled them to get the most even
weight.(try to kill some vibration). the block was also
torque plated prior to assembly.(350 buick torque plates
were used, go figure!). i used total seal piston rings
(man do they seal so you get the most out of each
bang). the one thing about those rings is i had to put a
restriction in pcv line because of the change in chank
pressure brought on by the rings. it has been 6 years
since it was built but i beleive the cam was about 496
lift (apparrently big ass for a v6), 220 dur @
4000approx and 300 dur @ 5500. i would have to look those
numbers up again to be sure though. am also running
edlebrock aluminum intake and carter compition series
650cfm carb (thinking about changing the metering rods
though a little to rich at idle but great on mid to top
end which is where the motor makes its power.also am
using a 14"x2" kn filter c/w kn top(just fits under the
hood, of course the high voltage ingition system.
nevered dynoed the motor but around 300hp is what i am
supposed to have. if i could do i would do just a few more
things. fluid damper to smooth her out a little more,
purple rods and roller rockers. (the motor is suposed to
be good to 7500 but the stock rockers and rods from
the turbo motor are only good to 6500 so have to be a
little careful), and a nice new mallory distributor
instead of my built stock one. if it seems like a bit
much for a v6. but the car still handles like stink
since i chopped the suspension and now it goes like
stink too. hope this helps if you would like to discuss
any other things drop me a line at
scorleo@nbnet.nb.ca. good luck, speak at ya later
regards
dave
