Which Radiator?

Initially, I went with a custom made 5 row
similar in construction to those used in disel trucks.
Unfortunately, there was NO room for a fan and I had to scrap
the project.

Fortunately, because this
radiator uses individual tubes held in place by rubber 'O'
rings, I was able to get out of the deal and purchase a
conventional style radiator.

This new radiator guy I
am using is great. He is a young fellow and his shop
is always full of street rods. He is really into
this stuff.

When using a Monza Radiator, I
simply drop the lower mounting brackets 3" (2 pieces of
strap steel) and retain the stock upper
mounting.

If you get the two-piece fan shroud from a V6
Monza, the one that has the upper radiator brackets made
into it, this is a bolt-in on the early Vega.

When using the stock Vega style radiator (13" X 21")
you should do the following:

1. Replace the
lower hose connection on the passenger's side tank with
a straight 1.5" fitting.

2. Use a wide tank
on the driver's side. I used one from a Cadillac and
Craig shortened it. You can also use the V6 Monza tank
and cut it down.

3.Install the stock Vega 90°
fitting you removed from the passenger's side tank and
place it in the driver's side tank.

This will
bolt in the stock location and use the stock shroud.
You will need to slightly modify the upper
brackets.

I have an extra custom made bracket (rough
looking prototype) I can send you photos of if
necessary.

Your lower radiator hose will be a pre-formed
#70970 from Pep Boys and will only need to be shortened
about 2.5" to fit perfectly.

Don't go with a 4
row. There isn't much room. I suggest going 3 row, 16
fins per inch with a high efficiency core. This is
what my 4 row is.

The 3 row is 2" wide and the
4 row is 2.5" wide. My 4 row has 30 rows of 3/8"
tubes, 120 tubes total and it does an incredible job of
cooling.

I walked it out the door for $265.00, including
California Sales Tax (7.5%) and the labor to move fittings
around and cut/shorten/silver solder the long drivers
side tank.

Call Craig @ 'Big Valley Radiator'
in Visalia, California at (559) 732-0507. Tell him
you want a quote on the same style of radiator he
built for Robert Herndon.

Tell him you want 3
row, 16 fins per inch with the same tank configuration
I am using. You can send him your stock Vega Tank
(Passenger's side) and we can probably find a driver's side
tank out here.

Let me know If I can
help...Robert

Which Radiator?

Lee, I believe the listing for the 4 cores is
from a BMW. I should have it back Friday or Monday. I
know he looked in a book and got the dimensions for my
replacement in the GM section. Then cross referenced it to
the 4 core section. And got the numbers for the same
size in 4 core. I believe it was #FT-7300? I know it
was definately FT-7***. then he just changed it to
ET-7***. He claims it won't be any closer to my fan. It's
still gonna be 2 inches thick. It will just hold more
coolant. I am just worried it will be too condensed and
won't let air flow through it.

Robert, I don't know how many tubes are in it. But I know that he said they were only 3/8" apart rather than 5/8" on center. I will add them up when I get it back.
