If tripower big blocks with out overdrive get
over 20 mpg, than imagine fuel injection and overdrive
on that old 455. 35 mpg at least 200+top end on any
local highway. Viper Killer. How much does a top auto
engineer make a year? Out design these guys with a good
platform like that and make millions. Just a little advise
for a great future.

Cliff

>>>But unless someone has either trap speeds or radar readings, I'd wonder about how a person got that speed number.<<<
Pulling down their pants and rubbing real hard...

Jeff,a buddy in the USAF had a '72 Formula
Firebird. He was from Penn, and the 472" Tin Indian was
assembled by H O out of New York,I think.Doug Nash 5 spd
xmsn, complete VSE susp and Vette brakes.
At sub legal speeds
this tork monster was flat scary.Yet,at twice the
dbl-nickel it was like cruising in a Caddy.120MPH felt like
60MPH.If we didn't have the Cape Canaveral designed window
clips installed, the door glass would pull out at about
130 MPH.
And when we pulled the headers
opened(JCWhitney stuff) the sound system was
inoperative.
Scared/wetted the WAFs when we cruised down to Ft.Laudredale
hurting for Turbo Carreras on I-95.And this baby was a
slot car at the New Symarna hi-banked oval, during the
spectator hot laps.
Tork rules on the street.
Frank

cliff,i hear ya on that.loads of bs out
there, working at napa for 20 years,i have heard my share of
it.95percent bs usually, rarely we will get someone who has
tried a new trick or has some unconventional car like
rob's omni.i still cant believe that one of the
quickest amercian built cars is a 4cyl.i used to think
cubes was everything, until i took a ride in a grand
national.i cant fathom how quick a 2600lbs monza would be
with a warmed over GN 231.i remember in the late
'70s,hot rod magazine did a story on a monza that ran at
the salt flats at bonneville.it had some twin turbo
motor, cant remember if it was a sbc.it ran some outrageous
speed, again i dont remember how fast.
take care
tony
