Does anyone know how much it helps to take off
the front swaybar when you drag race your car? I read
this in Hotrod once and its supposed to help the car
transfer weight better. I wonder if it would even help in
my V8vega considering how stiff the front springs
are......Any thoughts on this??? Also does anyone know of any
other things that I can do such as this to help the car
run a better number at the track?? thanks to all

Jordan

Jordan, you could remove the sway bar to aid
weight transfer and also reduce front end weight.
However, if you also drive the car on the street you may
want to consider just removing the end links when at
the track and then reinstalling them for street use.
It only takes a few minutes to remove the end links
and this renders the sway bar inoperative. Clyde

I don't think that spring rate matters as much as
shock rebound rate. A shock with little or no rebound
will allow weight transfer rapidly. Springs are there
really to just hold the car up, the have less effect on
the chassis than the shocks. Try a set of Lakewood or
Koni 90/10 drag shocks and remove your endlinks.

OK, I'm sorry but I don't remember who it was
that was pulling the front tires off the ground with
only 195 something tires. I would love to know what
you are doing to "hook". All I can do is spin them.

That be me ...
The wagon still has the
factrory 4cyl. rear springs are real soft on launch and
the only way it launches with out spinning is to use
2nd gear (4sp saginaw). If I even think of using
first I will set where I drop the clutch, until I let
off the gas anyhow lol. I only got the tires up twice
so I might have been lucky, afterwards I got a
little foot happy and never repeated.

If its strip only take it off,if you drive the car dont worry about it you will get more responce by working with pinion angle for traction.

Jordasn,
There are differing opinions on
unhooking the front swaybar. What it will do essentially is
allow your front suspension to rise quicker possibly
keeping the front tires in contact with the pavement.
This is desirable if something goes wrong and you have
to steer out of it. The other train of thought is
that you will bring the front end up more evenly,
balancing the front end better. Now I don't know how true
any of these are, the best advice I can offer is to
try it each way and see which works best for you. You
might even considering your experiences with us in the
near future.
