Today was a good day. I finally got around to put
my motor in today. I'm not done, but I was out there
so much I missed the chat tonight. What a difference
with the factory motor mounts. I like them so much
more than the Trans-dapt mounts. The only problem I
have is that my fuel pump hits the motor mount
brackets, anyone else have this problem? I also have to
move my tranny mount forward atleast an inch or two
(which shouldn't be a problem, it's already a custom
made unit). Has anyone else noticed that the K brace
under the motor is different in a '75 monza than '77
vega and a '78 monza? I didn't until I tried to put
the '75 monza one in my vega today. So I have a K
brace for a '75 monza for sale $5 + shipping. I will
inform you when I have finished the
installation.

Yes there is a problem with clearence for a
mechanical fuel pump on v-8 monza's and probably vegas too.
That is why v-8 monza's use a electric pump in the
fuel tank and have a block off plate on the engine
block. You can probably use a aftermarket electric pump
near the tank if you don't want to use the factory
pump which is rather small and won't provide a lot of
volume although that is what I have on my 350 with no
problem. Try to keep the electric pump as close to the
fuel tank and slightly below it. Electric pumps are
better at pushing fuel rather than sucking it

Well the motor, tranny, and rearend are in. All
thats left is two brake lines to each wheel cylinder,
the alternator belt, exhaust after the Y-pipe, and 2'
of fuel line (from the pump to the carb). Then I
also want to change over to power brakes before
driving it.

Corey, no the tranny you have won't
work with a 231. The 4 cyl. "iron duke" is a chevy
style bellhousing where as the 231 is buick
bellhousing. they are different. If and when you do the swap
you need to take the tail shaft housing off the
tranny you have now and put it onto the new tranny. It
is what the torque arm bolts to.

As for the
tilt column question. I don't think a power steering
column will fit in to a non-power steering car. The
steering box is a different length. The power column will
be to short to fit in a non-power car. If you do
swap over to power steering make sure you also take
the column "extension" thingy (LOL), they are
different too. I don't remember if it is the splines or the
bolt pattern on it.

I hope I was accurate, and
I hope I helped some of you.

YEE-HAW !!!!!!! My Vega runs !!!!! I started it
today (5/11/99) I only have to put an exhaust on it and
fix a tranny leak. I hope to test drive it by
saturday.

Roger, I haven't had time to pack up your
stuff yet (as you can see I've been to anxious to get
this car running). I will do it tommorrow. (sorry
again)

I have met with Tom (BADassVega), finally!! He's a
Nice guy with a real nice car. I got some good ideas
from him.

Corey, take the sunroof seal out
(carefully) and use weather strip adhesive to glue it back in
after you clean up the rust that might have started.
The seal itself might not really be the problem.

OK guys I drove my Vega today. I got a problem.
When I step on the gas hard there is a lot of smoke
behind me. The car also dosen't go anywhere when I step
on the gas. I have a 350 with 150,000 mi. with a
.420/.442 lift summit cam. It ran great in my truck last
month, and I haven't done anything to it. The tranny is
a TH350 rebuilt only 3-4 years ago. the rearend is
a monza 2.73 posi. Any Ideas?

AJ,

Sounds like you have a power to weight
ratio situation (GOOD). The only thing I can think of,
is to exploit it often.:) Just make sure your not
around any Pork product when this situation arises.
Enjoy often! OINK OINK. Oh and keep your eyes open in
the salvage yard for cheap smoking
materials!!!!(tires)

Well just to keep you all informed on how my Vega
is doing. Last Friday I took it to Speedworld in
Phoenix for the first time. I got a total of 6 passes in
throughout the night. For you that don't know what my car
has in it. It has a 355 with 9.5:1's with a stock
bottom end, stock ported and polished 1.94/1.60 heads,
Victor Jr. ported intake, Don hardy headers, 750 double
pumper, HEI, a comp 280 cam, 150 horse nitrous kit, a
TH350 with a 4000 stall (the car only stalls to about
2600 though), and the stock 7.5 GT rear with 2.93
gears. I ran a set of 28x12.50 M/T cheater slicks and
the car ran a best of 12.24 at 113mph on the bottle.
I don't have all the fancy retard ignition system
to run the nitrous so I just pull the distributor
back and run the shit outta it. haha. I was very happy
with the way the car ran. We had absolutely no
problems with the car, and the temp never got above 180F.
Once I stab a set of 3.73's in the car I am pretty
sure I will be in the high to mid 11's, atleast I
hope. Talk to ya'll later....Jordan (darthvegagt)
