Shouldn't be a big deal to find a set of main caps and have it all bore aligned
at the machine shop. If they have done the machine work on your block they
should give you a break on the bore align . John

Well today, I found out that all the time and money I put into the block
of my Vega may be for nothing. I was attempting to install my crankshaft
and it would lock up even before I would torque it down. Returned to the
machine shop only to find out that I had the wrong main caps to start
with on it. These caps were on block when I got last year so I didn't
think there would be a problem. Now I have over $1000 in parts and labor
that I may not be able to use. I am thoroughly frustrated over this
sudden turn of events that I can't think straight. The machine shop gave
me a couple of options that I will be thinking about. I am also looking
to find a sponsor since I have no more money to invest into this engine.
I have completely funded everything I have done so far. I just hope I
can still get this car done so I can race this year.

Just wanted to let everyone know what was going on.

Hi yes it is electric but it is not a high pressure pump, so if you are going
with a fuel injection unit you will need to change it or just use it to prime
the high pressure pump mounted outside the tank. Phil

Is it possible that the '76 Vega came with an electric fuel pump? I just
pulled my tank and the sending unit looks like it has a electric fuel
pump similar to the one that was on my Beretta. It's not exactly the
same, but it does look electric and it has wires running from it to the
plug on the sending unit. I was planning on installing an after market
one, but if I don't need one, then that's ok. Please let me know ASAP as
I am working on it this morning.

Subject: [GM HBODY2] Awesome Racing at Pueblo MotorSports Park, CO

Well, today was the final day of racing at PMI in Pueblo, CO. Got to see
some very awesome cars making some quick runs. There was everything from
regular daily drivers to a track record breaking Alchohol Blown Camaro.
I was with Scott Jones most of the day with his '76 Monza TC. The Bounty
Hunter, as it is known as, was running pretty good all day. The last run
was a 13.28, which according to Scott, was the quickest the car has been
on all motor. Unfortunately, the rain came in about 4pm so the racing
was cut short. There was also a Vega HB running 11.5's and a pretty
stock Monza Mirage V8 running low 16's so it was cool to see some
H-Bodies having fun.

The Camaro ran a track record of 7.63 @ 186 MPH. That was after beating
the old record on his first pass at 7.68 @ 185. It was really an awesome
site to see on a local track. Just a little info for you Camaro guys,
especially Wayne Best from Best Racing. (You're the man, Wayne)

Well, I have rambled on enough. I am really looking forward to next
spring when the track opens for racing so I can see what all my time and
labor on my Vega will produce. I will be posting some new pics soon.
Keep checking the website below for new pics.

Later all,

I tried to get a Comp Cam and thats what the specs were, but they couldn't get
me one for a few months. The LT1 springs were used because stock has too
little seat pressure for that cam. The motor was rebuilt for higher RPM. The
specs say it will make power from 1200-5200 RPM but because of heads will go
way past that. The regrind was suppost to be by a good company. I have a few
ideas why it failed but I am going to go ask my auto machining teacher about
it. Going to be a trick to find out what went wrong.

I did break in right, lubed the cam before install, tighted down the thrust
plate right, everything was right. Hopefully I can get another cam and
something payed for, but if not it will suck even more.

Just because I built a 4 cylinder right now, doesn't mean I'm married to them
forever. The idea always was do the engine (4cyl), then slowly start to do the
rest of the car. I can daily driver the car and slowly do mods that will swap
over to the V8. I can setup and rebuild my suspension, add my MSD ignition,
add a roll cage and subframe connectors. I plan to see what this 4 cylinder
can really do. I have got a good long block right now and would like to see
what simple upgrades can do, later nitrous, turbo and BOTH. Then later I can
still do a V8, but when I do one, it will be a good one.

So, Tyler, when's the 350 going in?

*ducks and runs*

Sorry, couldn't resist! :)

Seriously, I hear you about the "(not Pinto, Honda, old Supra,
Camaro, Vega, Monza, Mustang II or PACER!)" stuff! My 1979 SkyHawk
has been referred to as a Monza (well, OK, that I understand), a
Skylark (well, OK, that one, too), a Mustang, a Celica, a Porsche
(huh?), and even an Omni (the 3-door hatch O24 version). However, I
have to ask: was the guy who called it a Pacer sober?

I need a Pacer wagon............. :(

Props to you for doing the 4-banger. I saw one in a 1984 Camaro a
while back (taken from a wrecked circle-track--*sniff*--Monza Coupe),
and it was pretty strong.
