I finally got the Starfire home and found driving it was very cool,
drove good, no problems. What I found is that when I first ran it I
never reved the motor up when warm, that there is the problem. When
you start reving it up (2200-2500 rpm? no tach) it starts knocking.
Not a loud knock, but there and it goes away when the motor goes back
to idle-ish. If you rev the engine up and it knocks, then let off
and let it come back to idle it still knocks for a second, sounds
almost like bad rod bearing with bad oil pressure. It starts very
easy, idles with no touching, very smooth, just the knock. It
doesn't sound like a real solid knock, like the very beginnning.
When it warms up alot the knocking starts at a lower rpm and louder.
People say it sounds like a rod bearing but the chance that it could
be a wrist pin. Any help would be great.
Anybody tell me what they were pulling for mileage with the Iron Duke?
