A roll cage will stiffen things up, frame connectors will only make it better, we did a 8 point and sill bars instead of frame connectors, more you do the better, my car has very little flex in it now, I can jack up one corner of the car and the other side comes up at the same time, before there was flex.
IM sure there are others here who can add to this.

The sill bars, are they just part of the roll cage or are they welded to the sills?

a "rollcage" is a frame connector, a "rollbar" isnt. A rollcage has windshield mounted downbars and a halo bar, this effectively ties the car from front to back, they also commonly use front strut bars which weld to the front frame rails. As these are unibody cars there is no frame, the entire floorpan and with dimples and reinforcements spot welded/multiple panels joined to it is the frame. So the "cage" ties the whole car from front to back, you dont need frame connectors with a cage, a rollbar just ties the left side to the right side and slightly boxes the rear half of the car with its rear ward struts.
The sill bars added go from the main hoop to the front windshield down bars and add even more rigidity to the center of the car, they are not connected to the sill, just merely sit above it from front to back.
