recently a few of the guys were discussing this same thing you are asking. one good thing to do is put a crossmember from side to sie frame rail around the tranny crossmember(maybe even tie it into the tranny crosssmember if you can for added strength, and one back by the rear end., you can make them or buy them already bent for use as crossmembers, with different drop distances to clear the driveshaft.. these will also be like a driveshaft loop. also form these you can go out with outrigger and steel plates to floor pan areas, and weld them to floor or bolt in with a mathcing flat plate under the carpeting on the inside of car, then you wont see them and a 3/16 or 1/4 inch plate will be flat enough so it wont bwe seen under the carpet. this should tie in your whole floor pan and subframe system good luck chevy art PS the factory made crossmembers can be bought either as 2x3 or tublar(around 1 5/8)
