Front tires....

Postby 71LS1Vega » Tue Feb 24, 2009 7:15 pm

I plan on doing alot of drag racing this year and i bought some weld pro-stars. 15x6 im just wondering if i should get hoosier/ MT/Moroso front tires or if i should just get a regular radial front tire?

My father mentioned something about not running a radial with a bias ply tire or vice versa... im not sure. im hoping to get the car down in the low 10's high 9's if possible.

If the wheels are for track use only, go with a race only tire.

If you plan on running on the street, get the MickeY Thonpson sportsman front tires.I personally run a VW 195/15 front tire on the front of my Vega.

But is there any benifit in running the drag tire? and high speed control? because why spend 100-150 on drag front tires when i can buy regular tires for half price? i dont mind buying the drag tires but if there is no benifit.... im going to have to google this! lol

An actuel drag tire is designed to give you less rolling resistance going down the track, and are speed rated alot higher than a regular radial.

Hope you can successfully fit those tall fronts without hitting anything before full-lock. Rear tire size you are thinking of is perfect.

Well im not worried about the steering because since the LS1 pan sits in the way of the steering i have bump stops on it that really restrict the steering angle. kind of a pain but its what im willing to sacrafice. and no inner fenders either.

I had 26” fronts on my mirage turned the wheel and started to back up in the pits
And the tire caught the lower front side of the wheel opening and ripped a big chunk out of my fiberglass :cuss:
Maybe the Vega has more room :?:
