Installing wheel studs, what size drill bit?

Postby 71LS1Vega » Wed Mar 18, 2009 7:40 pm

My 12 bolt has small studs and i need to drill them out since they dont make one small enough. I bought Moser .480 kurl diameter studs So does anyone know what size drill bit i will need. i did a google search and saw that people mentioned .005-.010 smaller than the stud itself but i do not know how true this is.

Are they press in studs or screw in ? Why do you need to change them out?

They are press in, hence the "kurl size" but its required to run extended/hardened rear wheel studs.

how are you going to drill them out ? there are two drill that would give you a press fit , 12mm is 0.4724 and 15/32" is 0.4688" . if possiable do it on a milling machine or decent drillpress that,s how i do them also don,t run the drill too fast some of the axle flanges i,ve done are fairly hard
