Main hoop install

Postby flowerz489 » Mon Sep 21, 2009 8:10 pm

Anyone have a pics of there main hoop, where it is welded to the floor. Mine seems to be halfway on the edge of the sill bar, just looking for some pics of how others have done it.

It seems in most cases where it's half on the sill bar, I see people build sheetmetal boxes that bridge the gap and also add more stiffness to the area. I haven't done it personally, but I've seen it done.

It's going to end up there, did on mine. Just take the 1/8" floor plates and shape them to fit the floor then trim the hoop to fit the anle of the plate. I don't have any good pics of the floor plates on mine.

It really depends on where you sit. Granted we don't have a ton of space to deal with but the bar is supposed to be max of 6" from the back of your helmet as you are comfortably seated. Max of 5" from the top bar to the top of your helmet. The cross bar needs to be 4" below your shoulders. It's the 5th bar I'm not clear on. It's supposed to cross your shoulder or something like that. Anybody else?

(Just so happens this is the latest thing I researched for my car. LOL)

if you can see it in my pictures '' NOT THE BEST SHOTS'' the mounting base does indeed overhang the floor but some horizontal suporting pieces have been welded in place to add some structural integrety to the part of the base that is overhanging the floor. the one area of the carthat is fairly rusty........................

lucky for me there is no tech inspection on street cars... will investigate and modify if nessesary down the road. this was probably done way back in 1975 when this car was constructed by two crazy Austrailians with intent to raise cain with the locals on the street. that was back when Riverside raceway was in it 's hayday unlike today when the property has been converted to track houses and a shopping mall..... :bang: :cuss:

S & W roll bar kit. Back seat cushion just goes past it a little. Brian

Nick, the 5th bar (angled from main hoop to floor near front of door) must pass midway between the driver's shoulder and elbow. The rules are flexible on this because of the various heights of individuals. As long as it's above your elbow and below your shoulder you're good. Any bar that attaches to or passes through the floor must have the plates and they are required to be a minimum of 6" x 6" and 1/8" thick.

I know your allowed to bend the plate any shape but you must have the full 6x6 or more plate, I was just wondering if your allowed to drill holes in the plate to spot weld it too the floor, I cant see it being an issue because it should be stronger than welding the edge.

Yes, that would be acceptable, and really not a bad idea either, 8)
