AL or CF driveshafts

Postby RockDaddy » Mon Oct 19, 2009 8:09 pm

Anyone running a really light drive-shaft setup (drag race only)

I'm looking to shave more weight off the car. I have a big old honking steel one.

probably the aftermarket aluminum ones are good, but the factory ones(mustang etc) are not supposed to be the best for our high performance beasts. thats what i have read in some of the mags but dont know myself. sounds logical though chevy art

I don't mind spending money on good parts. I think it might be a good way to cut some more weight.

Stay away from carbon fiber. Over time they get small cracks and sooner or later they will split. They might be lighter by a small amount but are much more prone to failure but when they go its not as bad as a metal one.

If I were gonna do that, I'd get a shaft out of a later model GM truck and have it shortened to fit, they are like 4" or a little bigger, and super strong, 8)
