weight of h body cars

I recently purchased a 1976 monza hatch back car that was used as a weekend bracket drag car. All the interior is stripped out and the engine will be an iron head SBC with a Turbo 350 transmission. It will have no accessories on the engine except an alternator. It is stock suspension with a 26x8.5 slick. I am wondering how much the car should weigh. Any input would be appreciated.

V8 Monza's weighed about 3100 lbs give or take depending on options. Sounds like you knocked off at least 200lbs maybe a little more.

Do monzas come with power steering. Also is the factory intake cast iron or aluminum. We are also removing the factory fuel tank.

Not as light as you would think.

I think most V8's came with power steering and brakes. The intake manifolds were cast iron so there is some definite weight savings there. If you add up most normal options you will see it comes to about where I mentioned, 3100-3200 lbs. This also coincides with all the magazine articles test weights I read when these cars were introduced. I figured at one time that I probably dropped 150lbs or so on my car by removing some smog hardware, installing a aluminum intake, headers in place of the heavy cast exhaust manifolds, removal of catalytic converter ((HEAVY) and aluminum wheels in place of the steel ones. I also have a manual trans which saves a little weight and no AC. I always guessed mine is about 3000lbs. I'd guess yours will come in around 2850-2900 lbs. Compared to a Camaro or Chevelle it's an easy 500lbs lighter.

I have a 1987 olds cutlass that I have backhalved and gutted completely. It has fiberglass doors, hood, frontend, trunk and rear clip. I am putting all lexan windows and aluminum sheetmetal floors and trunk. Wilwood breaks, aluminum motor plate, and mid mount. With an aluminum headed sbc that will make around 700HP. My car should weigh around 2500lbs. with me in it. Thats alot lighter than the monza I guess. But the car looks like a tank compared to the little spyder. I guess that goes to shows looks can be decieving.

My 75 vega with a small block, headers, no power anything, muncie 4 speed, cosworth wheels and me in it(140 pounds) weighed 3030 at a local municipal scale. The scale was new so I am assuming it was still accurate.

I know it sounds hard to believe but i can actualy grab the front cage of my cutlass and pick the front end off the ground about a foot and hold it there. Of course that's without the engine and transmission. And I have actualy lightened it up about another 50lbs. Since then.

with no motor I can lift my vega with ONE hand, If you made an h body all fibreglass it should be alot lighter than that old guttless. Ive loaded vegas on trailers that had no rims/tires with a couple guys

That's a givin considering my car weighed about 600lbs more than a Vega from the factory. I think my car is pretty light considering its size. And its a full frame car with an 18 point cage.

that is very light for a g body. but if you did the same to a vega it should be lighter

Not trying to be smart butThat's like saying you have 4 gallons of water and I have 5 gallons. I dump out 2 gallons and so do you so that means you have less. That's pretty much common sense.

I have scales and I recently corner balanced my back halved 1980 2+2.
SBC with Brodix heads, th 350 & 2 bolt with 4 link. tinned interior with full dash Weighs 2717 without me. 57/43 front to rear distribution with ironicly a 50.1 % cross weight! with me in it. (doesnt matter in a drag car)
