i know i have seen a few of you guys use less than a 6x6 plate on the main hoop i was wondering if that passed tech or not because they say every plate needs to be 6x6.

Go with the 6X6 and you don't have to worry about passing tech . You get a guy with a beef about your car and if he's buddy buddy with a tech guy , you lose .

i only used a 6x4 on the main hoop cause it was a pain to even roll that around the ground so know i am at a cross roads of either leaving it or ripping it out.

yes, it has to be 6x6.. but you can mount the cage any where on it. the side, corner, middle or where ever..

The plates have to be the same area as 6 x 6 plates, ( square inches ). They prefer 6 x 6, but sometimes it can't be done. I found this out on a car we done and there were a couple of places a 6 x 6 would not fit. Also they have to be a min. thickness of .125 or 1/8" when using mild steel.

yea, some cert guy's are wierd about that but i believe that is technically correct. and has to be .125 no matter what material you use mild or moly.

No, it was MIG, but there is so much zinc coating on the metal in there, even after grinding, that it's tough to get a clean looking weld. Looks a lot better after wire brushing, and definitely isn't going anywhere. 8)

Hi, newbe here, quick question about your plate placement.I assuming if you have 2x3 box tubing welded underneath to tie your front & rear frames together, would'nt it just be more feasible to tie part of that plate and the bar end along with the front down tubes to the 2x3 tubing for strength?I just picked up a stock 71 and I'm trying to get ideas on how to build the car right the first time.....thanx

if you can weld your main hoop to your frame rails you dont need a floor plate.

Do the 6x6 plates have to be solid? Can they have lightening holes in them?
