Rear tub or stock configuration

Postby bbcowboy » Mon Feb 07, 2011 7:28 pm

I am building a pro touring Vega, and my question is for the best results for handling aspects I am considering a rear half from Art Morrison or using different pieces from other manufactures for the stock set up with a torque arm. What I am looking for is ideas or suggestions to go about it.

Even with wheels chosen for the optimum backspacing, it's tough to get anything wider than a 235 or 245 tire inside the fender lips on the back; if that's big enough for your definition of "pro touring", tubs won't be necessary. The front is even tighter, especially if you want the car low(which is part of MY definition of "pro touring")

and 4 more Saturn "parts cars"
Note- the very act of listing all of these has made me realize I have some kind of problem.....

The car does not have the stock fenders on it any more. I have installed the fiberglass fenders from Hooker Header. What I have figured out without tubbing the rearend and using the stock width rearend I am able to get 11' wheels with the stock back space. As for the front I can go wider and lower. The tire sizes for the rear are P315/35ZR17 and the front are 275/40ZR17 from Nitto.

Do you know what dash serial number that car is? I'm with the Cosworth Vega Owners Association and we keep track of the disposition of as many as we can that are left.

Hi Chuck
You don't need to go very far with the dash number.. I don't remember what the number is but, Chris Wheaton has the information. I had purchased this car and CV 1044 from him last year. I am also with the CVOA.

If you had mentioned up front that you were using the "wide-body" Hooker kit, I wouldn't have wasted my time trying to help :?

Don't worry about it... as you can tell I am new to this....I have built a v8 vega before by using factory parts. This time I am pushing more horsepower and I would like input.
